Just reflecting on the Morales deal and wondering...what makes it a successful signing? If he hits 30 home runs? I wonder what would constitute a good signing considering his inability to play D, and his poor baserunning metrics.
I still tend to like the deal.

Relatively healthy and an 800+ OPS on average for the length of the deal.
That way, at least he's tradeable if the team needs to go another direction.

Nurse is below average at best.
Masai is overrated.
I dont get how so many people believe in the raptors, they have zero to chance to win it all.

That's probably what we can expect from him, and it also probably means he's barely worth half of what he's being paid. The more I look at this, the more I don't like it. Maybe they see something in his approach that they can tweak that's not showing up in the numbers. Hard to imagine there are many secrets about a guy that's been in the league this long, though.

Well he had a serious injury derail his career for a period so there's been little consistency, plus he's been stuck in pitchers parks since he started to regain his stroke.
Morales was lights out for the final 4 months of 2016, perhaps they see a player that has turned the corner post-injury and they're banking on that guy (closer to 900 OPS) showing up?

I'd like to see an 825 ops over his 3 years here to justify that 3rd year. I see him as a nice high floor , low ceiling signing. He is good, not great so I think we need two more good players to replace ee and joey bauts.

I really wish Pompey had a better year. If we could plug him into one of the corners right now, we would be siting pretty this offseason imo. Unfortunately, I don't think he is long for this team

Pompey is over hyped he's been in the minor leagues 5 yrs now Still can't crack the Big Club.

He was drafted as a 17 year old. It'd be shocking if he didn't spend most of five seasons in the minors.

**** your asterisk.

For sure. The problem isn't the 5 years in the minors, it's that he's flatlined as a mediocre AAA hitter.
Definitely not the same prospect he was 24 months ago.

No question there; the package works as a solid-to-good fourth outfielder if he can cut down the strikeout rate a bit, but the plate discipline that made him an appealing prospect seems to vanish every time he gets called up, and his XBHs mysteriously disappeared in AAA last year.

**** your asterisk.

The talent was there. I watched him play in aaa during the short stint he initially had there. He was the best player on the field the games I saw. And it wasn't even close.

Players get injured and, depending on the injury and sport, can take a while to get their timing back. Meanwhile, posters on Realgm completely write the guy off. Demarre Carroll is the most recent example. Pompey started the season with turf toe, and then got wacked in the head by a stray bleacher in June. We'll see.

Pompay at the least should be considered for a bench role. I mean there are some true Scrubs in the majors. Pure depth guys. At the least Pompay could be the speedy runner off the bench........ I can't stand Upton and his strikeouts. Switch em up?

He'll be considered for a bench role only if they're pretty sure that he isn't going to amount to a hell of a lot. A point that might be approaching, but teams don't consign well-regarded prospects to the bench.

**** your asterisk.
