Seriously though, instead of dumpster diving for Blanco or De Aza, why not just play Pompey? He was one of our top prospects, and while it's understandable that he was buried behind Bautista and Saunders last year, now we're talking about burying him behind mediocrities like Blanco, De Aza, or even Revere?

Give him a shot. Start him for half a season and see what we got. If he's a bust, you can always find a Revere or Bruce type for cheap around the deadline.

I like this solution.
Even if he can't hit, he is still young and will play good defense in a corner outfield spot.

Bad hitting corner outfielders are not a thing that we need. We have a few of those, already, and that's the problem. We don't even know how good of a defensive outfielder he'll be over the long haul. We've given him a shot a few times already, and he can't even hit AAA pitching let alone MLB. He needs to figure something out before he gets another shot. Gotta hit up taht Playdium batting cage in the offseason, or something. It onyl goes up to 85MPH, but I've worked out a few kinks in that place, it might actually help him! haha.

That's exactly the reason why you SHOULD give him a legitimate chance. If you're already going to play 1 bad OF, let it be somebody who is young enough to get better, and has at least some potential. Trotting a player out who already is what they are will not help the team at all. You don't know what you have in him, but every other alternative isn't a difference maker, so why not?

He's only had 148 plate appearances at the major league level, and has put up an OPS of 680. That's nothing to write home about, but it's not terrible for a rookie. Ben Revere's career OPS, for instance, is 662...and it was 560 last year.

Steamer projects Pompey to have an OPS of 710 next year. They project De Aza to have an OPS of 655, Blanco 695, Revere 676.

If we can add a difference-making outfielder, that'd be great, but if not, Pompey is a way better option than the other mediocrities being mentioned.

His OPS was .862 in July and an exceptable .735 in August. It was only September when he truly struggled (.454) but obviously those were important games so more eyes were on him. And he was one of our best hitters in the playoffs.

I'm not worried about Saunders bat, just his terrible fielding.

That makes sense. He was a dreadful .454 in September/October.

And how did I butcher the spelling of acceptable. Yikes.

They would have to get a nice return due to arb year control - and Charlie Blackmon by himself isn't enough - but if the team believes he's unlikely to pitch 180+ innings a year and/or will end up in the bullpen in the next couple years, sure, see what's available.

Blackmon actually had a monster year last year, at and away from Coors Field. He actually hit five more homers away from Colorado. I wouldn't say no to him manning a corner outfield spot for the next two years, but Colorado would have to sweeten the pot some.

We have Stroman for four years still. Even going through arbitration he'll still be comically underpriced, and that doesn't touch on the possibility of a pre-FA extension.

I see no reason to think that he can't pitch 180 innings a year, though. He has had two healthy seasons, and he topped 3 WAR in each one, and topped 200 IP this past year. Dude's getting seriously underrated around these parts because he had a slow start.

are we forgetting the wildcard game? Or last season's playoffs? Talk about short term memory loss.
