Blasphemy. The guy hit a home run to win us the World Series. He's exempt from all criticism.

i'd add our World Series catchers to that list.
Borders and Tabby were meh, with Tabler having those clutch hits to propel him to average status.

question, though: was Gruber a very good 3B?

Gruber was other worldly but knocked out by injury.

I'd also put Devon White into the conversation. Sure he was super graceful out in CF, but his average sucked considering he had epic protection.

Most underrated: Rance

After looking at the fans voted 40 best, I would add Stieb. Yes he has second most wins of 80's and a perfect game, but I would have taken Jimmy Key any day in a one game series.

Rance is a good call for underrated. Jimmy Key too apparently according to the all time list.

Devon was overrated at the plate but such a great CF thst I would give him a pass.

Gruber to me was overrated, if only because he kept his job in 1992 when he was horrible. His fade to oblivion happened quickly and during what would have been his prime.

I'll say Alex Gonzalez (the 90s version) but that's mostly because I hated him.

I guess that Alfredo AB was to get the inning over ASAP due to rainout possibility.

Devon White was an overrated leadoff hitter, but a pretty great all-around player. BBRef has him at 47 career WAR, and FanGraphs at 41.8. Definitely not overrated.
Nick Nurse recounting his first meeting with Kawhi:
“We could have gone forever. (Raptors management) kept knocking on the door and I was like, ‘A couple more minutes.’ Because we were really into it."

JP Arencibia was prospect worth salivating over. Then he has a huge game to start his MLB career. Almost Auston Matthews esq...... huge power for a catcher.

Got exposed pretty quick though. All he had was power. That's it. Couldn't catch. Couldn't hit. Just a swing for the fences guy.

Jays some of the Deepest catcher depths in the minors. All dumped away because we found our future catcher already... almost Justin Poggie esq.

RA was a solid 3rd-5th starter for most of his time here. The problem was he was always judged against the haul that we gave up for him.

I hope our starting pitching this year can open some people's eyes. We could have used 6 innings a start and .500 ball from RA.

He was entertaining. Yes, no one expected him to do anything at the plate. He was below average and no one expected him to rake anything.

So how was he over rated?

just the way he was so popular. I think his presence on the bench. People though he was a glue guy that kept things cool.

When in fact. He was keeping better players from contributing. He was barely a minor leaguer let alone major leaguers. He provided nothing at the plate and had an average glove.

Over rated.

I do agree that he took up space in the 40 man roster but in 2015 he was really a Sept call-up that contributed off the field (eg., "with the whole team shouting "bush party" taking a group pic on the field). I would say as a Sept call-up for the Cubs last year he had some off-field contributions. This one is a tough one as he does take up a roster-spot (the 40-man) but I don't think it made much of a difference on the field in 2015 for the Jays and 2016 for the cubs. Now yeah, maybe in 2014 when the Jays were bad..he shouldn't have been there, but then I don't think he was the sole reason the Jays were bad. And this year I wouldn't want Kawakaki here because id rather see another young prospect as a Sept call-up.

Anyways I'll contribute to this one - how about Jose Cruz Jr.?

JP Ricciardi

He came to Jays as a star hiring. He was thought of as one of the brightest up and coming minds in baseball. And thus mad some real smart moves early on. He was praised by everyone. It was all going as planned for years..... but he never managed to build anything. It was a waste of all those years. Nothing to show for our star GM's efforts.

AA was similar until his big moves at the end. But atleast AA got the team to the level he was building towards eventually. Ricciardi just wasted all his time and ended up with garbage at the end.

Not sure I get this one. Green evolved from solid to spectacular during his 5 full seasons in Toronto and was one of the top players in MLB his final season here with a 6.0 WAR. His career OPS with the Jays is somewhere around .850 and his defense didn't tail off badly until he joined the Dodgers.

My short list for most overrated:

Vernon Wells
Joe Carter
Alex Rios
Pat Borders
Alfredo Griffin
