This article basically says the opposite is true. The jays are trying to make similar deals to Liriano trade. Offering salary relief to teams to acquire talent...
Which makes way more sense

Curious what salary we'd have been taking back. The only true problem salaries that the Marlins have are Wei-Yin Chen and Martin Prado, as I'd imagine that Castro is movable on his own. Ziegler and Tazawa aren't worth what they're getting, but even the Marlins wouldn't get too excited about dumping one year of moderate pay, surely.

**** your asterisk.

Morales's contract isn't really bad compares to the real bad ones(pss, Chris Davis) around the league. It is not decent by any mean with his performance, but it is just a short team and mid-range contract that Jays should able to swallow. In 2017 Blue Jays has the best attendance record in AL, they are making money and can afford our current payrolls.
Heck, even on our roster, I feel his contact isn't the worst. If our front office are desperate to dump salaries, it should begin with Tulo's not Morales'. Even so, Tulo's contract won't get into our younger players' contract extension. By the time Stroman Sanchez, and Osuna finished their arbitrations, Tulo's contract should already expired.
So, what is the point to dump a salary to begin with? To sign big name free agents? Are you kidding?
It is ok for casual fans like us to believe this kind of rumors, but for a professional local sports reporter, this is beyond idiotic. It just show he knows nothing about the local teams, thus, unprofessional.

For a guy who is owed $23M it's about as bad as a contract can get, since he's worth nearly 0 dollars at this point. Yes, that's favourable to a guy being paid $30M+ who is worth zero dollars. But I don't think that means much. His roster spot alone is probably worth more than his contributions will justify due to the opportunity cost of who we're missing (a useful reliever, an extra starter, a 40 man roster spot on a guy we otherwise will need to cut or trade, etc).

Would you add 2 inches of dong if it meant getting crabs?
I acknowledge and thank the lək̓ʷəŋən peoples of the Songhees, Esquimalt and W̱SÁNEĆ First Nations for allowing me to live, work and play on their unceded traditional territories.

The crabs is for 2 more years then it’s gone. Those 2 inches will be here 7+ years.
