All deserving...still trying to figure out how Thome is only a 5x all-star.

9. Similarly, IF THOU HAST SPENT the entire offseason predicting that thy team will stink, thou shalt not gloat, nor even be happy, shouldst thou turn out to be correct. Realistic analysis is fine, but be a fan first, a smug smarty-pants second.

A bit disappointing that he'll be sporting the Angels, instead of the Expos cap.

Well, I'll be darned.

Would have been nice to see 2 Guerrero's in the Hall simultaneously wearing Expos/Jays caps.

Glad to see Vladdy Sr. do his part to ensure the 1st ever father/son player combo ever in the HoF. Now that the difficult part is over, Vladdy Jr can relax.

Vlad with the Expos: 4220 PAs, 234 HRs, .323/.390/.588 (148 OPS+)

Vlad with the Angels: 3606 PAs, 173 HRs, .319/.381/.546 (141 OPS+)

Expos numbers edge it, but he did with his MVP with the Angels, so fair enough. Mostly highlights what a long and consistent peak he had at the plate.

I will admit to being completely baffled that Vlad gets in on his second try with 93% of the vote, and Gary Sheffield pulled 11% in his fourth year. Even with his inclusion in the Mitchell Report, that's really low.

Sheffield admitted to using steroids. That said, there's really no consistency with HOF voting. Omar Vizquel is apparently the second coming of Ozzie Smith, Jack Morris gets put in while Mussina barely gets any recognition, and Jamie Moyer gets as many votes as Johan Santana. I don't notice as much bickering and complaining about the HOF vote anymore, probably because it's become such a joke. It seemed to be a really hot topic like 3 years ago with lots of passion on both sides but people seem to have given up on it.

Yet another dagger for Expos fans. Would've been nice to see Vladdy go in as an Expo, honor him during the Jays two-game series in Montreal, and get Vladdy Jr a few at-bats during those games.

At the same time, I can’t really blame him for sporting the cap of a team that still exists instead of a ghost. Especially since he’ll be the first Angle HOFer in their 55 year franchise history.

Absolutely. It's just that he isn't even receiving votes from many of the voters who are picking steroid users. As the backlog grows (assuming MLB doesn't fix their balloting procedures) he's a legitimate threat to get dropped entirely, which is nuts.

Yeah, at this point people are starting to give up their votes and stuff like that, too. It's a mess and I think the HOF is going to stop mattering quite a bit over time if they decide to keep the status quo. It's already a punch line across the board. The steroid issue in particular is going to break the hall. They're going to leave off some of the best ever to play the game just because they admitted using steroids while allowing others who used but didn't admit it. It becomes laughable at that point both because they don't have the best players and also because they're claiming to be attempting to take the moral high ground when they're simply instituting legal terminology when it's totally irrelevant to the discussion and come across as encouraging systematic lying and rewriting history. They're also clearly gambling that people will forget over time, and they might be right, but I also think it's just as likely as it's just another reason that young fans will slowly stop tuning in over time and baseball popularity will start to decline.

That was funny! I had re-read it at first—very good joke.

I don't see this as much of a dagger as an Expo fan myself In the last 15 years, we could have made 5 trips to Cooperstown to honour players who spent 5 or more high quality years with the Expos. Vlad, Gary Carter, Andre Dawson, Tim Raines, and Pedro Martinez. And 3 of those went in as Expos.

I don't think there are that many fanbases who have had as much reason to make the trip to Cooperstown the past 15 years.

Compare this to the Jays who have had only 1 Hall of Famer who spent a significant portion o his career with the Jays. It should become 2 in due time.

The Expos fans did not have much team success, and they don't have a team, but they have had plenty of Hall of Fame highs recently.
