To keep him stretched out for whenever one of the top 5 starters gets injured.

Solid signing. Projected 2 win player on a 1 year + option deal. 5th starter who hopefully can stay healthy.
That's what she said.

I would put Biagini in the pen and have Borucki as 6th starter. I don’t see them signing anyone else. They will probably want to retain some salary flexibility for later in the year.

Depth. The top 5 in the rotation looks solid (Stro, Sanchez, Happ, Estrada, Garcia), but it is important to have a strong AAA rotation for depth reasons.

Whether Biagini actually is a good starter remains to be seen, but better to have him stretched out and ready to go in Buffalo than to use him in a one inning role for a month and then have to stretch him out if a need comes up.

Heard on the radio from a reporter that Gibby believes Biagini is too good to be in Triple A insinuating he will be the long man in the pen.

Borucki has made 8 starts above A-ball, and while he was good, you need more than that as depth for your rotation. I'm sure they don't want him on the big league roster until he passes the Super 2 deadline as well, and chances that our 5 guys stay healthy for 2+ months are slim to none. We'll need another starter. If Biagini was good enough to start before signing Garcia, he's good enough now and should start in Buffalo. I have a feeling they didn't think he was good enough to start anyway, and there's a lot of evidence for that.

Garcia has red flags, but he has huge upside if he stays healthy. No ace, but better than average. Perfect for the back end of rotation.

Cashner is a bust on my opinion. Once had ace potential but now. Upside is tainted. Got too much with the 2nd year. Orioles messed up again. Like they did with Ubaldo. Terrible.

Given that we're also now a back-end reliever short of where we were last season, it wouldn't be surprising if they shortened him entirely in the hopes that he recaptured his 2016 form as a 7th inning guy, and sought out a bargain basement reclamation project for the swing role. Like bringing back Brett Anderson or something.
