Is Vladimir Guerrero jr going to play for Canada or Dominican?

Post#1 » by TooBad » Wed Jun 20, 2018 4:00 am

I was just wondering whether anyone knew which country Vladimir Guerrero jr will be representing Internationally? He was born in Canada and his mother lives in Canada but his dad was a superstar who represented the Dominican. His dad has 8 kids with 5 different women so I don't know how loyal jr is to him.

He'll play for the Dominican he's lived there most of his life.

Freddie Freeman played for Canada despite living in the US his whole life, saying "Anything you can do when it comes to honoring family, in my opinion, is the greatest thing you can do. This is all about honoring my mother, and obviously winning this whole thing would be even more special."

As mentioned up top, Vlad's mom is also Canadian and he has other family living in Quebec. The fact that he'll be playing (and possibly living) in Canada for the next 7+ years might also factor into his decision.

Most Latino players are extremely loyal to where they came from. Its part of the reason why you'll see guys who have spent 10-15+ years playing Pro ball in America who somehow still can barely speak a word of English. I'd be shocked if Vlad played for Canada.

I get your argument, but I think you might do well to consider rethinking/rewording it a bit. I mean, Vlad was born in Canada, after all - where did he come from? That's a loaded question, honestly. And he isn't one of those players who struggles with English. I honestly have no clue what he's going to do.

We would ask him to play for Canada right now. Would the DR? Maybe we can have a reverse Brett Hull situation.
9. Similarly, IF THOU HAST SPENT the entire offseason predicting that thy team will stink, thou shalt not gloat, nor even be happy, shouldst thou turn out to be correct. Realistic analysis is fine, but be a fan first, a smug smarty-pants second.

I would love to see him play for Canada, but Latinos are usually very loyal like Met said.

Not sure what Pops would say if JR would wanted to play for Canada - Guessing he wouldn't like it much but who knows in the end?

He was born in Canada and yet he almost exclusively speaks Spanish. Has anyone even heard his father speak English?

I wouldn't get your hopes up if I were you.

He does speak english, which is obvious given that he has no problem communicating with his teammates. But he's not comfortable speaking english on camera.

This is a typical weird thread by TooBad. Everything is about Nationalities or politics with him. He's Anthony Bennett's number 1 fan, and constantly **** on anyone that got in his way, like Patrick Patterson.

Haha...To this day I would still put money on Bennett in a 1 on 1 game vs Patterson. Bennett was slaying it from 3 in the d-league whereas Patterson has regressed so much he'll be joining Bennett soon.

Hmmm, well that was out of left field.
