I think I would rather the Indians come out of the AL than the Red Sox/Yankees/Astros.

Re: The "Let's Make a Deal" Trade thread.
Since Giles is under control for next two seasons, not particularly expensive for another team at least next season when he is arb2, and seemingly able to do the primary part of his job - save games - anyone want to hazard his trade value this winter? A rebuilding team doesn't really need a closer to the same extent as a legit playoff contender.
Even if Giles was viewed as an eighth inning setup guy by a contender, he is likely more valuable to that team than to the Jays as a closer. He would have looked good in pinstripes for the Yankee Stadium boo birds this weekend. (It was sweet, if we have to win games, to hang a pair on the Yankees and once again screw with Dellin Betances.)

I don't know what we can get for Giles in the offseason, but we should try to get something. We don't really need him, and closers are volatile (in more ways than one, apparently) so "wait and build his value" is a risky proposition. If we were competing in 2019 that might be a different story, but at this point, relievers nearing the end of their control years shouldn't be a priority.

I do like this buy low move by the Rays:
The Rays have struck a deal to acquire Tommy Pham from the Cardinals, reports Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports (via Twitter). Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times tweets that the Rays will send outfielder Justin Williams, left-hander Genesis Cabrera and right-hander Roel Ramirez to the Cardinals in exchange for Pham and international bonus allotments.'
The Cardinals dealt Pham for three prospects, including two ranked in Tampa Bay's Top 30 in Williams (No. 14) and Cabrera (No. 25). Williams, 22, recently got his first taste of the Major Leagues, logging an at-bat as a pinch-hitter on July 21 before returning to Triple-A Durham, where he'd posted a .258/.313/.376 line with eight homers and 18 doubles in 94 games. He profiles as an everyday left fielder at the highest level, one who hits for average as well as some power. The 21-year-old Cabrera has struggled with his control this season at Double-A Montgomery, issuing a career-high 57 walks in 113 2/3 innings, but he also generated 124 strikeouts and held hitters to a .218 clip on the strengths of his mid-90s fastball and hard, swing-and-miss slider. Ramirez, a right-handed reliever, owned a 2.53 ERA with 60 strikeouts and 17 walks in 53 1/3 innings across two levels at the time of the trade. Pham, meanwhile, has struggled this season after a breakout 2017 campaign, hitting .248/.331/.399 with 14 homers and 10 steals over 98 games with St. Louis. The 30-year-old outfielder is arbitration-eligible for the first time this offseason and will not be eligible for free agency until after 2021.
Would been a nice buy low guy to flip in a year or two.... I guess the equivalent would be been like Sean Reid Foley, and Forest Wall, and Pompey .
Damn should have gotten on Tommy Phan deal, dude is looking like an MVP since the trade.
