Yeah, wanting good players to bunt is a really bad idea, which is why it was so roundly mocked here for years. Asking bad hitters to bunt, especially when you're in late-game scenarios where a single run matters more, isn't such a bad idea. It's still to be used sparingly, but there is more utility and less opportunity cost in asking Alen Hanson to drop one down compared to the hew and cry for Jose Bautista to start sacrificing.
