Re: Jays @ Dodgers - Aug 20-22
Got to play guys to their strengths, especially low ceiling guys in their late 20s. Jays tried to push Biagini to be a starter and he was terrible, might have even hurt his confidence and lost time, and resources while lowering his value. Gaviglio too, Pannone is another. Starters are more valuable than multi inning relievers - but most guys cant make that jump and when they do, they become less effective.
Sometimes its best to take what you can get with limited upside players especially when all you need now is a warm body giving you effective innings which is what Font and others are doing.

Re: Jays @ Dodgers - Aug 20-22
What he's done in the past is very much relevant. The 12 erratic years necessarily inform how one should think of the 20 good innings. Remember when people wanted to declare Freddy Galvis part of our core because he had a good month? From 2012 to 2019, 787 pitchers have thrown at least 100 major league innings. Font is 765th in FIP. He's been in the majors here and there since he was 21, and hasn't even logged two total seasons yet.
The time to try and stretch him out is over the winter, but even then it's not going to be in a traditional starter role...it's going to be as a four-inning guy, because that's about what he can manage given his pitch counts. Just deciding one day that he, on a couple days' rest, should throw 80 pitches is a really bad idea.

You're doing it again, you really can't help yourself can you? No one mentioned "80 pitches" but to validate your argumentative nature you had to create that false narrative and then argue against it. Anyway, we're just repeating ourselves, you enjoy it, I don't. Have at it.

Re: Jays @ Dodgers - Aug 20-22
Font throws nearly 20 pitches an inning. If we ask him to pitch 4-5 innings, yeah: he's going to throw 80+ pitches most of the time. I'm really curious how you come up with a scenario where Font pitches twice as deep without throwing somewhere in the vicinity of twice as many pitches.

**** your asterisk.

Last game of the year, we should start nothing but rookies, like we were a Dutch football team or something.

Waggy looking like the leading candidate to be our Opening Day starter next year.

Jeez, Waggy completely dominated the Dodgers. Had them in total shambles.

Holy cow, I have been thinking about this for months and was literally just going to post that idea. Do you know if any team has ever started nine rookies in a game? It would be really cool if the Jays did it but of course they won’t because… Baseball

I doubt it's been done; I'd imagine that the only chance of it happening (at least going back to the 19th century) would be during WWII, when you had a bunch of teams starting really old/really young players who didn't qualify for military service. But even the 1944 Reds (who fielded a 15 year old) or the 1945 St Louis Browns (who used a one-armed outfielder) don't appear to have come close.
Believe it'd have to look something like:
C: McGuire
1B: Tellez
2B: Biggio
SS: Bichette
3B: Vlad
LF: McKinney
CF: Alford
RF: Davis
DH: Jansen
P: Take your pick, really.
We're a couple players short in general on the 25-man, but have enough to make it work on the 40-man.

What’s funny is that lineups actually better than probably half of the lineups that they have trotted out all season.

Please stop using this tired gripe (because... you're wrong).
Using an opener is in itself going against the rigidity of baseball.

I'm sorry, but I can't take anyone seriously who has George Will as their avatar. He's like human oatmeal.
