Re: Postseason, 2019
I don't think there's a team that's more reliable enjoyment in watching lose when the playoffs start than the Dodgers. You know it's going to happen. You won't feel bad for them. And it's hilarious every time. Unlike the Yankees and Red Sox, I don't actually dislike the Dodgers. I don't care if they lose or not. I just wouldn't enjoy them nearly so much if they didn't spontaneously combust every October.

A. J. Pierzynsk and Joe Girardi play very well off each other. Really enjoyed the broadcast of this Rays-Astros series.

Happy for Osuna for him to get to the Alcs again.

Are the Dodgers the biggest chokers in pro sports? They have a bigger payroll each year than the GDP of a small country yet they haven't won a title in 31 years.

The 1996, 2010, 2011 and 2015 Texas Rangers say hi. The Rangers say hi in general

The Dodgers have made the playoffs 7 years in a row now. The Rangers have made the playoffs 8 times in their entire history dating back to 1961 when they were the Washington Senators. The Rangers suck far too much to be on the level of choker that the Dodgers are. The Rangers are basically just the Blue Jays that didn't manage to punch through for a couple of championships.

Re: Postseason, 2019
Wonder what the active record for most consecutive appearances in a full playoff round without a WS might be. Rangers are at 8, Dodgers are at 13, which takes some doing...average team in the era of the divisional series should win a title every eight times they reach the NLDS or beyond, and they've fielded some pretty above-average teams.
**** your asterisk.

The Astros haven't lost a game in Houston with Cole on the mound since May 22, which is almost 5 months ago. In that time, Cole is 18-0(!).

Have been reading about a new stat called pCRA, Is based on how often someone barrels a baseball.

Cole is really good.

One thing about those new stats is that often, the people creating them (and explaining how they are the best thing since sliced bread) use a flawed methodology. There was of course the DRC+ fiasco with BP, which was egregious because of the fanfare that came with it, and the fact that BP is supposed to have higher standards and obviosuly knew about the deception they were usign as opposed to it being an accident.
But these small ones pop up all the time, too. It's very easy to find some fancy stats and run a regression to spit out a formula to predict ERA. The most common mistake is people will use a set of years to create the regression (lets say 2014 to 2018) and then they'll test that very same formula for predictiveness during those same 5 years. And of course, it will be absolutely amazing under those circumstances. It's like looking at the results of Lott 649 on a Tuesday night, and using them... to retroactively predict the results of Lotto 649 last Tuesday. Maybe pCRA isn't doing that, but it's pretty common.

That's a good example. I actually cancelled my subscription to BP as a result, and I bet I'm not the only one.

Yeah I had to ask about drc+ before even bothering with it.
I thought it was interesting that they made a stat based on statcast's results and barrelling but they can only go on what they have from now back to 2015 because these stats weren't tracked before that.

Joe Buck and John Smoltz talking accordians and even playing Polka music as they cut to commercials is more Lawrence Welk than it is postseason baseball. I hope they don't end up calling the World Series, too.

And it's his birthday today, too (past midnight where I am)...
Congratulations to the Expos on bringing a pennant to DC.

You're not the only one. I actually got a refund.
Sent a reasonable and detailed complaint through their customer service portal in late March, I believe it was, and got no response for a month. So I made the complaints public on Twitter and like magic, they responded to my concerns with a refund (along with an employee chastising me for not keeping the issue private - ???). Harry Pavlidis then went on Twitter and said he personally reviewed my initial complaint and had told staff to ignore it. LOL.

Oh, that's terrible, but a hilarious story! BP is a gongshow now, so desperate to be relevant again. The site redesign is also a big fail. Oh, how the mighty have fallen!
