Yeah the money isnt added to our 2019 budgets. We are currently working with the 2018 budget, i assume we used pretty much all of our 2018 budget of roughly 5M on Orevlis Martinez (3.5M) and the 27 other IFA players we signed. So right now we have at least 1.5M to work with to use before July 1st. We can either use that in trade or go after Sanchez which would be huge;

Yolbert Sanchez | Rank: 4 Hometown: Havana, Cuba
Position: SS Age: 22 DOB: 3/3/1997
Bats: R Throws: R Height: 6'0" Weight: 180 lb.

Scouting grades: Hit: 45 | Power: 45 | Run: 55 | Arm: 55 | Field: 65
Known for his elite defense, Sanchez's polished glove might be ready for the big leagues now. According to scouts, he can spray the ball from "line to line" and is considered a line-drive hitter. He ultimately projects to hit eight to 10 homers in the big leagues. He is also known for his average to slightly above average arm as well as an average to slightly above average running ability. Scouts also like his game instincts and track record.

Sanchez was the starting shortstop for the Havana Industriales and projected to be the starting shortstop for the island's national team before his defection last summer. He was the starting shortstop for Cuba's 23U team in Panama and was a teammate of White Sox prospect Luis Robert on the country's 18U team.

Because of his age and experience, Sanchez will sign under the international signing guidelines. The Orioles, who came up short in their pursuit of Cuban outfielders Victor Victor Mesa and Victor Mesa Jr. and Cuban pitcher Sandy Gaston, still have close to $6 million in bonus pool money and were among the first teams to scout Sanchez in person. Should the Orioles decide to trade away their bonus money, the Twins, Brewers, Pirates, D-backs, Rockies, Indians, Royals, Tigers, Mariners, Blue Jays and Giants could be possible partners and thus be in a position to make a substantial offer.

The Dodgers, Phillies, Rangers, Cubs and Red Sox have money to spend during the current signing period. The Astros, Mets, Cardinals and White Sox could be among the teams in play for Sanchez if he decides to wait until the next signing period that starts July 2.

Sanchez is represented by Ulises Cabrera of Octagon and trains with Edwin Castillo in the Dominican Republic.

I think at least 3-5 teams have more money than us. But you never know, maybe having Gurriel helps. Though we did just move our 2 other Cuban born players in Diaz and Morales.

Looks like Alford didn't make the team, guess there was something brewing but it didn't work out.

I wonder if this move is to free up DH spot for Vladdy when he comes up, or at least give them the option to play him at DH one every 3-4 games.

Jays need to move Pillar, and Smoak before the end of season and pretty much their whole reliever core.

Thats nuts, incredible deal for the Jays. Hoping we can get Yolbert Sanchez

They paid 10million in order to have the right to pay someone else 1.5 million. What a wacky system.

Sounds like the reason Anthony Alford is in town but not on the 25 man roster is that a trade almost went down last night for Kevin Pillar. At least that's Blair's suggestion.

Its strange, have a source? I dont see why it would be harder for them.

The USA and Cuba have had strained relationships since the early 1960’s. American citizens can’t travel to or do business in Cuba like Canadians. It’s very difficult for Cubans to get travel visas to the USA. Obama loosened regs a few years ago, but Trump reinstated them. When Kendrys signed with Toronto he said he was looking forward to his family visiting with no hassles.

Effective September 2017, the only way a Cuban can travel to America is under a very limited family reunification program or for urgent medical treatment.

The only non immigrant visa applications at the U.S. embassy in Havana will be able to process are those for diplomatic or official (category A or G) visas or extremely rare emergency cases in when the applicant has a life-threatening illness requiring treatment in the United States.

I wonder who was interested, too bad it didn't go down.

The Yankees announced that they’ve acquired first baseman/designated hitter Kendrys Morales from the Athletics in exchange for cash or a player to be named later. In order to open a spot on the 40-man roster, New York transferred righty Jonathan Loaisiga from the 10-day injured list to the 60-day injured list.

Now we're spotting the Yankees over $30m for our castaways.
