ANAHEIM, Calif. — The Los Angeles Angels have fired longtime visiting clubhouse manager Brian “Bubba” Harkins for allegedly aiding opposing pitchers in obtaining illegal substances to put on baseballs, a person familiar with the decision told The Associated Press on Thursday night.

The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the Angels don't publicly discuss the details of internal personnel matters.

The Angels confirmed Harkins' dismissal Thursday night to The Associated Press.

Harkins was fired Tuesday while the Angels are in Arizona for spring training. He has worked at Angel Stadium for most of the past four decades.

I get the impression alot of baseball fans might not watch as many games this year because of all this sign stealing / foreign substance use bs. But this is weird, why are you helping other teams?

The same reason anybody does their job: money. It seems he was giving the stuff to some of the Angels based on the evasive way Andrew Heaney responded to a direct question. Once they realized he was selling it to opposing teams they fired him.

I have to imagine, the MLB shutting things down for the foreseeable future like the NBA, is only a matter of time.

The odds of the baseball season starting on time are next to nil. And frankly, that's 100% for the best. I like baseball. Baseball's great! Baseball's probably a really bad idea right now.

I think MLB would have tried the empty stadium games, and may have gotten away with it, but the NBA and Rudy Gobert killed that possibility.

Tampa was basically preparing for this eventuality for years now and it was all for nothing.

92 ALCS game 6 on. Forgot how good Juan Guzman was.
9. Similarly, IF THOU HAST SPENT the entire offseason predicting that thy team will stink, thou shalt not gloat, nor even be happy, shouldst thou turn out to be correct. Realistic analysis is fine, but be a fan first, a smug smarty-pants second.
