But we shouldn't sweep them! The Nats are struggling, in that they win 40% of their games to date. The most likely outcome in a series with a team that wins 40% of the time is that you'll win 50% of the games, given that the options are 0%/50%/100%.

Then you actually don’t get that it’s baseball. ;)

When an 8-13 team meets a 10-11 team for a 2 game series, the most likely outcome by a significant margin is a 1-1 split. Especially if the lower seeded team is throwing their ace. That’s baseball. Baseball is where he Oakland A’s started the season 0-6 and then won 11 of their next 12 games. Baseball is where the good teams win 55% of their games and the bad teams win 45%.

And heck, we don’t even know at this point if we’re a good team and the Nats are a bad team. Preseason projections at fangraphs had the Jays winning 53% of their games and the Nats 51%.

And did Trae Turner ever get hot this series!

9. Similarly, IF THOU HAST SPENT the entire offseason predicting that thy team will stink, thou shalt not gloat, nor even be happy, shouldst thou turn out to be correct. Realistic analysis is fine, but be a fan first, a smug smarty-pants second.

Five hits or less is pretty mediocre. If you take out Vladdy and Randal the whole team must be in the basement.

Jansen might actually be the worst hitter I’ve ever seen.

I wonder if his vision problems impact his ability to pick up the baseball. I noticed he dropped the goggles last night, presumably in favor of contact lenses. If this is the case, maybe he should give Lasik a go before the Jays run out of patience.

Apparently his breakout season in the minors happened when he found out he needed glasses.

Last night was sucky. But on to the Braves!

Just for my own egotistical purposes...am I still up for making the next series thread, or is a tie cause for ousting me? :P

At what point does Montoya finally decide he needs to stop sticking him in the lineup most days? It’s not like he has some previous track record as a good hitter that he’s trying to get back too. He needs to get red hot just to reach his old, awful self.

Hopefully management takes the option out of his hands shortly with some sort of move.
