That's what they said in the home opener. But yeah, lightning doesn't strike the same place twice.

Not sure why we just did not keep Grichuk over Tapia. I will be surprised if Tapia is still on this roster come July.

Because they wanted to dump his salary over the next 2 years. Just as simple as that.

Saucedo is not a MLB'er it would seem.

Jays still sent 9.7 million to Colorado in the transaction to cover Grichuk's contract. They are paying Tapia 3.95 million this year. Grichuk was set to make 9.33 million this year. Jays paying Colorado 5.338 million to cover Grichuk's contract this year. So, no salary savings this year, since they are taking on about 400K extra. I give Jays front office benefit of the doubt though. They wanted to save a few million for 2023.

You nailed it. The problem with that trade is the manager.

Still a series win. Hopefully Manoah picks everyone up tomorrow.

Definitely a wonky start to the starting pitching this year and parts of the RP are still in question. Thornton, Merryweather, Pearson, Saucedo. Any of that group can't necessarily be counted on. Hopefully Garcia and a healthy Phelps make a difference.

As per usual, the overblown commentary saying that this is one of the best starting staffs in the league and rhetoric like: 'any manager would want the Jays team instead of their own' is completely comical in its certainty.

Berrios can turn it around but Ryu is already now being talked of in RA Dickey inning eater terms and Kikuchi could also be very bad. That is not what I call a team with depth in its starters. Even with assumed normalcy from Berrios, Gausman and Manoah having a good sophmore year, the 4 and 5 is likely a definite problem.

I'd seriously be looking at Stripling to take over Ryu or Kikuchi with prolonged problems. He was 'not bad' in starts. And I'd take not bad over Kikuchi's ERA or 2nd half of Ryu last season any day.

I also do not understand why Stripling isn't asked to work multiple innings. Why are they converting him to a one inning guy? He could have value over multiple innings to rest other BP pitchers and it could keep him more prepared to start.

Even if we lose I would take winning 2/3 of our games. That is 108 win pace.

Sure, I was more talking about the needing to score 10 runs a night to pull out a win.

You have to consider that Grichuk sees that we have 3 full-time OF ahead of him on the depth chart - he might/probably did ask for a trade in private, as his FA is coming up in 2 years and he won't accept being a 4th OF / bench guy.

Not too worried about the SP. We have a solid rotation, with enough skil and experiencce to compete in AL East. The bullpen is the problem. Other than Romano and Cimber I don't feel confident with any of the arms we have coming out of the bullpen and into the game. Also, taxing the bullpen this early will only come back to bite Montoyo and the Blue Jays in the you know what. Injuries will happen and arms will fall off. Let's just hope for the best I guess.

Taking 2 out of 3 from the Rangers is not too shabby either. Let's not forget, Texas went out and picked up two major pieces in Semien and Seager. There batting lineup is pretty lethal. They will score a ton of runs against opponents this season.
