Atkins is good at buying low and selling high.

very early returns on Chapman v Semien are in our favour as well.

we bought Semien low as well for 1 year. I'm ashamed of all the slander I used to throw at Shapkins.

Semien will eventually pick it up, but 175 million guaranteed for him over 7 years was way out of my comfort zone that I would have considered bringing him back for. Texas will eventually regret that contract, and Seager's 32.5 million per year for 10 years that they gave out also. Rather have Chapman anyways, for half of what Semien is making for this year and next. Solid move by Atkins getting Chapman for what was eventually traded to Oakland to acquire him.

And then two years from now, we'll potentially get a draft pick compensation when he signs elsewhere after we QO him.

It really feels like we're back to working the systems.

Lets not get ahead of our selves, they did hold on Donaldson, in a year where he got injuried, and basically we gave him away to Cleveland cause we weren't close to contention, and got back often injuried Merryweather, not exactly selling high on a guy.

At the time I swore off Atkins because of that move. I advocated for trading JD before the start of 2017 season - blow it up. But they didn't and the rumor is that ownership didn't allow them - owners wanted the final squeeze of $ on the hype of 2015-2016.

So maybe Atkins didn't have a choice back then.

I didn't mind running it back one last time.
9. Similarly, IF THOU HAST SPENT the entire offseason predicting that thy team will stink, thou shalt not gloat, nor even be happy, shouldst thou turn out to be correct. Realistic analysis is fine, but be a fan first, a smug smarty-pants second.

Could you imagine what type of prospects/players we could have had, had we done something in 2017 off sesason. Probably would have Jose Rameriz or something like that

Bichette for Yelich (prior to his move to Milwaukee) was the big talk at that time, a suggested trade that looked like a massive missed opportunity after 2018, and looks like quite a bullet dodged after Yelich's power mysteriously vanished, leaving the Brewers on the hook for $188.5m over seven seasons for a guy who can barely crack league average at the plate (and isn't likely to improve as he gets into his 30s).
