I'm more excited about facing Tillman over Ubaldo than worrying about Stroman over Liriano. We looked like little leaguers against Ubaldo last outing and Tillman is definitely laboring recently with his shoulder injury.

Stroman has been getting hit all year. Probably should have went with Liriano who has been lights out last month.
Let's hope the good stroman shows up

Even in the game last week, the Jays hit Tillman hard. We got a bit unlucky with balls hit right at defenders. I was at the game last September when they rocked Tillman for a big number.

I dont get how so many people believe in the raptors, they have zero to chance to win it all.

JaysRule15 wrote:Liriano is the only choice here really imo. Better numbers against the O's, better in September, has pitched in the Wild Card game before with Russell Martin no less. Liriano's bad control is also less of a factor against a free-swinging team like the O's who'll chase pitches near the zone and won't go out of their way to take a walk.
Stroman meanwhile pounds the big part of the strike zone, and gives up a ton of contact (which are usually outs, but could turn into cheap singles and men on base. Which is the last thing you need against a homerun hitting team like the O's).
The cherry on top is the fact that the O's have been mediocre against lefties all season long while crushing righties. By starting Liriano, you can negate Davis and also make sure that newly-minted Blue Jays killer Kim starts on the bench. That last part is very important. That guy has burned us all season long lol.
I hate that guy Kim. Gets under my skin

If "Good Stroman" does not show up and the Jays lose- Gibbons should be fired. Liriano was the right choice here.

+1
Againt Ubalo we had 3 hitters that hit him well before, one of them was Smoak. Against Tilman we have several hitters that have hit him and shown an ability to get on base.
Travis 3 for 8
Donaldson 9 for 35
Edwin 17 for 58
Bautista 12 for 45
Martin 6 for 14
Tulo 5 for 12
Pillar 8 for 23
saunders 6 for 21
carrera 3 for 10
Upton 3 for 14 2 walks
Navarro 6 for 21
Goins 9 for 27

The thing about stats and science is that they don't jive with small samples, which is exactly what you're citing when you say Stroman has been bad against the O's all year. Stats and science suggest that how well he's done in those 23 innings matters very little when predicting how he'll do in the 6 innings tomorrow.
However, the Orioles have been much better vs RHP than versus LHP which is a big boost in Liriano's favour. I doubt they'd do something very unconventional, but I think something along the lines of going with Liriano twice through the order (4 or 5 innings) followed by Stroman once through the order (2+ innings) and then going to Cecil and Osuna, would be the best bet. But I don't see Gibby trying anything like that.

The fact that Tillman is starting over Ubaldo is a huge relief. Tillman has been very mediocre in the second half and the Jays usually hit him well. Ubaldo, meanwhile, has been very tough lately and is painting that outside corner flawlessly right now. Showalter went with the name power over recent results.
Unfortunately, GIbby made the same mistake by going with Stroman over Liriano. Just hoping that if things do go south, Stroman's leash is super short.

Stroman has had the lowest FIP/xFIP on the team since the all-star break. He started off the year horribly but has returned to form since then.

Keep in mind there is a clubhouse dynamic at play here too.
And Stroman has been fantastic since the AS break.

Why is everyone in the media talking about the O's offence as if it's something special? They're ranked 7th in the AL and they're behind us.

I thought Liriano wouldve been the choice.
Hopefully Stro can keep his stuff down tomorrow night.
Would hope he's on a pretty short leash.
