MINNEAPOLIS – As rain poured down at Target Field Wednesday evening, the Toronto Blue Jays’ top prospect continued strengthening his case for a spot on the big-league roster.

Yep, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. homered again, one of two hits he collected in Pawtucket against Boston’s triple-A team. With each passing day, the discussion around Guerrero Jr. picks up, not only for fans but for Blue Jays decision makers.

“We’ve talked about him a lot in the last week and probably are going to keep talking about him until he’s up here,” Blue Jays assistant GM Joe Sheehan said Wednesday afternoon. “We’ve talked about him a lot for a long time and probably more so recently and will continue to hopefully talk about him a lot in the future.”

Complicating matters, the weekend forecast calls for rain in Buffalo. Schedule-permitting, the Bisons would show Guerrero Jr. off to their home crowd for the first time this year on Friday and Saturday, but barring a change in forecast he might not be able to get the reps he needs in Buffalo.

“It’s a challenge just trying to get into a progression,” Sheehan acknowledged. “When the weather messes that up when you’re at the mercy of that in the north in April, it’s a challenge. It makes it hard.”

The Blue Jays play in Oakland over the weekend, so they could simply call Guerrero Jr. up for that series–at least on paper. As always, club decision-makers will weigh Guerrero Jr.’s defence and off-field routines while determining his timeline to the majors.

Has played in just two games fewer than his father, though, so you might be right.

Nah, he's definitely lost some weight compared to Spring training when he WAS worryingly huge. He's nothing like late-stage Ortiz. More Miggy Cabs level of functional lol

Big Papi had a reputation for being a big boy, but he was quite svelte compared to Vladito, who is proportioned like a really tall midget.

Vlad is healthy and now under team control through 2025, and they are still coming up with reasons to keep him down? Who cares if his debut is in Oakland instead of Toronto? He deserved a call up in 2018 but was held back for service time reasons. Those reasons no longer exist, and the internal 3b has been awful, so what's the hold up?

Every game Vlad plays is important. When you have a talent like this, play him as much as you can for the time he's under team control. This is getting ridiculous and embarrassing.

Probably the smart move, for the simple reason that it would really suck if he contracted dysentery from that awful Oakland stadium.

Makes sense. Make his debut at home.

Still need Vladdy photoshopped into a pic of Omar from the Wire with Vladdy’s comin’ as the caption.

with Drury heating up do you really want to remove him from the lineup?
