The most remarkable thing is the lack of homegrown talent. Development was supposed to be their strength.

If you watched the Vlad press conference with Ed, Shapiro and Ross, you wouldn’t think that.
One flew east, one flew west, one flew over the cuckoo’s nest.

If Santander is usually a slow starter in March and April, then I guess end of May/June
I would also spot- playing him in the field to let him ponder on other things than hitting the ball if all else fails.

"They will get fired this year" (or its variant, 'they SHOULD get fired this year') has been a regular refrain for a few years now.
I'm losing hope that it'll happen.

Our most reliable hitters are Straw & Heineman. Roden has cooled off and so has Wagner. I don't know what happened to Jimenez. This is just depressing.
Why would you think that? Bo was his usual self in 2023 and this team still couldn’t score. The issue was never the hitting coach it’s the personnel.

Shapiro's contract ends after this season, and Atkins after next season. If 2025 ends up similarly to 2024, then I think there's a real chance that they are gone. The caveat being that Shapiro may have already been quietly extended, in which case this franchise is doomed for the next few years.

Don't worry, once we're a bunch of games out of the playoff spot, I'm sure Vlad is gonna start crushing everything. He did the same thing last year.

Shapiro won’t be judged for the teams record. He’ll return.

I'd like to believe that's not true, but I'm very afraid it might be.

I think based around the work Shapiro has done on the business side of things and his relationship with Ed Rogers, he's very likely staying. At most, we'll likely see Atkins shifted into a non-baseball role in the front office and they'll hire another GM.

Even with a big payroll, you need some cost controlled assets to win. Its hurting us big, when our only avenue to fill holes is via FA, which typically leads to overpayment or guys in their 30's who can just drop off.
We have a top 5-7 payroll, but its inefficient spending because we rely so heavily on FA to stay afloat.

It wasn't a realistic ask to expect them to get fired after making the playoffs in 2023. But it was still disappointing and you would have thought their would have been enough internal scrutiny for them not to survive 2024.

Quite a bit of irony in the way he roasted AA for trading away prospects when he got here and yet here we are.

What sucks is that is that its not like they're following the AA approach of simply trading away young prospects and emptying the system. They're kept and developed most of their prospects. They've invested heavily in player development infrastructure and increased scouting. It's just been a complete inability to hit on picks or international signings. So many of our players do well in the minors and just stall here. Our system is full of AAAA player types. Guys like Roden, Wagner, Barger, Clement, Schneider, etc have all done well in minors but just can't crack it here. If we had hit on even a couple of these players becoming stars or even good regulars, it would be a different story right now.

What happened to Orelvis Martinez or Leo Jiminez? why can't they get a look at 3b over Clement or Wagner.

Martinez is hitting .154 with a .539 OPS in AAA, so that's probably why.
Jimenez hasn't played at all from an injury
