So is Travis Snider really 5'11" 245?

Kid is big.

How is his defense? The only measure I know of ranks it as very good, but I have a hard time believing that he moves around really well in RF given his size.

Geremi Gonzalez with another good outing last night for the Cuse - 5 innings of one hit ball, 5 K's. In the same game, Blaine Neal strung together 3 SO innings on one hit, 3 K's. Another SO inning for Brian Wolfe and for Ryan Houston. Yes, the Chiefs did give up some runs. Beau Kemp was the culprit. At the plate, Adams, Olmedo and Fasano each had 2 hits .

Good pitching was again the key in a winning effort from New Hamsphire, highlited by 6 1/3 strong innings of 4 hit ball by starter Mike MacDonald. In relief, Jo Matumoto for 1 2/3 and Jordan DeJong for 1, held the opposition scoreless. Matumoto has not given up an earned run this season. A 3 hit game by Sergio Santos was the only batting of note.

All we got from yet another Dunedin loss was a string of lowlites, led by the pitching staff. Suffice to say that none of Ray, Serro, Estanga or Tressler were on their game.

Better news from the Lugnuts, where Chase Lirette turned in another fine mound performance - 5 2/3 innings of 2 hit ball, 3 k's (ERA for the season is 0.77) At the plate, Snider, Pettway and Campbell each had 2 hits while Canadian outfielder Chris Emmanuele one upped them with 3.

He's a pretty good athlete for his size, good enough that he should be able to project as a LF in the majors. His arm isn't that great which pretty much eliminates any possibility of him staying in RF.

He already has 3 triples this season so we're not exactly talking about a Frank Thomas/Bengie Molina type here. Jim Callis compared him to Billy Butler with better natural athleticism last year.

Well Snider finally a HR last night, a 2 run job. Josh Bell and Brian Pettway also homered in the Lansing. victory. More shutout innings pitched by Zach Dials, 5 innings 2 hits. Another good pitching line at Syracuse where Josh Banks pitched a 7 inning complete game. Kevin Barker had 3 hits. Curtis Thigpen had 2. Although NH lost, starter Justin James pitched 4 innings of one run ball. Not much else worthy of mention and I am short for time. Anyone wishes to add, please do.

The better results on the farm came from the two A level clubs who both won while Syracuse and NH went down to defeat. Nathan Starner was the pitching star at Lansing, hurling 7 shutout innings, 3 hits, 7 K's no BB. With 2 more scoreless innings of relief, Seth Overbey is now up to 8 2/3 in that department. Matt Liuzza and Brian Pettway homered. Travis Snider tripled but in the sixth was tossed for arguing a ball/strike call.

Kurt Isenberg hand a standout start for Dunedin, going 7 innings of 2 hit ball with 10 K's. Has he discovereed a new pitch? This start was certainly out of character as Kurt has had two poor starts prior to this after 3 years of scuffling at various low levels of the minors. His next start will bear watching. Adam Calderone(.368) and Al Quintana had 4 hits each while Juan Peralta had 3.

Nothing especially positive to report from Syracuse or NH. The starting pitchers were Ismael Ramirez and Kyle Yates. Both struggled. Perhaps, I should mention 2 innings of shutout, 5 K ball from Brian Tallett. Expect to see him back in TO soon. Jo Matumoto hurled 2 more innings of 1 hit, shutout ball in relief for NH.

Not much in the way of highlites for prospects yesterday as only 3 games were played with one win. In that one, Ricky Romero had a good start, especially considering the long layoff due to postponements - 6 1/3 innings, 2 runs, 5 hits, 7 K's. At the plate, Sergio Santos stroked a double and a HR. Manny Mayorson had 2 hits. In a losing cause, Jason Scobie for Syracuse gave up 1 run over 5 innings. Brian Wolfe continued his fine relief work with another 2 2/3 innings of scoreless ball. Blaine Neal gave up the winning HR in the 9th. The hittters, other than Sal Fasono with 2 knocks, were asleep.

Kyle Ginley had his first poor outing of the season as he lasted only 2 2/3, giving up 7 runs on 8 hits. Bormaster had 3 hits, Shoffit, Diaz and Campbell had 2 each. Snider was 0 for 4.

Purcey was on fire for the third straight game:

7 IP, 1 H (HR), 0 BB, 1 ER, 6 K

On the season he's posted an absolutely (Please Use More Appropriate Word) 0.45 WHIP with a K/9 ratio of nearly 11. He's walked only TWO batters in 20.1 IP this year (only given up 7 hits!).

Santos is on fire - hit 2 HRs with another double today. Gives him 4 FR on the year (9 of his last 12 hits have been for extra bases) and he's pushed his average back up to .300

The best of the highlites have already been posted(Purcey, Santos). McGowan went one scoreless inning for Syracuse but was then pulled after a rain dealy. Also, among the NH highlites was a HR by Aaron Mathews who is still on fire, hitting .372. Cannon's HR would be worth a mention if he wasn't hitting .140. Robinson Diaz(now playing 3b) had 2 hits to bring his average to .333.

Finally a win for Dunedin but the news is not all good. John Thomson has a rehab start and was shelled- 8 hits and 4 runs over 4 innings. At the dish, 2 hits apiece for Patton, Kreuzer and Neilson. For A winning Lansing squad, the best pitchers weere relievers Edward Rodriguez(2) and Paul Phillips(1) with scoreless innings. Rodriguez was a highly payed signee from the DR about 4/5 years back who seems to be finally getting it together. He was compared to Pedro as a 17 year old. His progess will bear watching. 5 players with 2 hits each to lead the offense. They were: Shoffit(.333), Emmanuele(.226), Snider(.333), Jaspe(.257) and Diaz(.265). Brian Pettway went 0 for 5 and is batting .314.

A tough night on the farm with 3 losses out of 4, yet there were individual performances worthy of mention. Chase Lirette continued his superb pitching, though in a losing effort, giving up one unearned run in a 1-0 loss. He gave up 4 hits over 6 2/3 earnings, 3 K's. His ERA is now a stunning .49. No hitting support this night save for a double off the bat of Travis Snider.

Finally, Brandon Magee had a good start for Dunedin although he too received little run support. Magee gave up 2 runs over 6 innings. Only Josh Kreuzer had 2 hits, both doubles.

An important hightlite fpr me was the continued solid pitching of young Jesse Litsch at NH -only one hitt surrendered in 6 1/3 innings with 7 K's. Unlike some of the other pitching prospetcs, Litsch is ahead of schedule and making AAA this year at 22 years of would be an enormous plus. I wouldn't rush him though. Jo Matumoto has yet to yield a run this year, this time for only 2/3 of an inning. Sergio Santos had 2 doubles and a walk.
Syracuse had a rough night - Geremi Gonzalez and Jamie Vermilyea were having good seasons until last night when both were badly off, giving up 3 and 7 runs respectively. The catchers, Fasano and Thigpen each homered.

Out for a day with computer problems. The only happenings of major consequence on Wednesday included another tremendous relief outing by Jo Matumoto at NH, now over 9 scoreless innings( 1BB, 7 K's) and the continual excellent and surprising play of NH outfielder Aaron Mathews, now hitting .367

3 out of 3 for the affiliates last night, Dunedin sweeping a DH and NH winning in extra innings on a walk off HR by Chip Cannon. Sergio Santos had 2 hits including a HR and is batting .321. Kyle Yates started and pitched 5 SO innings, 4 hits, 2 BB, 4 K's. Best of the relievers was Jordan DeJong with 3 no hit frames with 4 K's. His ERA is now 0.77.

For Dunedin, Russ Savickas pitched a 7 inning complete game victory -3 hits, 3 K's, ERA now 3.28. Cory Patton had 2 hits. Good SO innings in the 2nd encounter by Aaron Tressler(1.98), Daryl Harang(0.00) and Connor Falkenbach(0.96). Jacob Butler (.299) was the only 2 hit regular.

Unfortunately, a bleak night on the farm with the affiliates going 0-4. Little of consequence to report save the follwing two items: Ricky Romero did not have a good start for NH but was not horrible - 3 runs in 5 innings. Purcey to pitch today. On the positive side, Travis Snider had 3 hits in a doubleheader though Lansing lost both games.

Unfortunately Saturday was another dismal day for the affliates, mainly due to poor pitching performaces by Purcey and Ginley. On the plus side, McGowan had another good outing( 3 hits, 1R, 5K's in 6 IP.. Thigpen had 3 hits in a DH including a HR.

There were more highlites last night in addition to Snider. In the same game, Matt Liuzza, Josh Bell and Brian Pettway homered. Seth Overbey delivered two more innings of SO relief bringing his total on the season to 11. Bradon Magee had a rough start for Dunedin(4 runs in 4 IP) but was picked up by 4 SO innings by Kristian Bell. Jacob Butler had 2 hits including a homer. Kyle Phillips had 3 Hr's.

Perhaps the co-star of the day was fast rising pitching prospect Jesse Litsch - 5.2 innings, 2 runs both unearned. Jordan DeJong pitched 2 SO relief innings. Chip Cannon had 3 hits(finally), Manny Mayorson and Aaron Mathews had 2 while Sergio Santos homered(6th).

Ty Taubenheim had his best outing of the year for Syracuse - 6 IP, 3 hits. At the plate, Russ Adams, Ryan Roberts and John Hattig each had 2 hits.
