Diaz’s contract with the Dodgers contains $4.5MM in deferred salary annually, reports Sherman. The net-present value, for luxury tax purposes, is roughly $21.1MM.

Basically he opt'd out of contract that The right-hander had been guaranteed $38MM over the final two seasons of that contract (so 24 mill), to get an additional year, but a lower AVV (With deferred)

For sure, it's interesting that all the big teams haven't really been on Tucker, and i wonder why... No talk about Dodgers going after him, or Mets, don't the mets need an OF after trading Nimmo. or Yankees wouldn't they rather have Tucker over Cody Bellinger?

Diaz to the Dodgers really sucks. They have fixed their only weakness from last year.

They really need Suarez now… and Tucker …. And Bo. Come on Ross, make it rain!!

Your math above to get to 24m is not working out .. unless the 38m was a typo.


Seems like a good contract for the Diaz and Diaz does t get much from opting out. But perhaps getting to a good organization rather than the mess that is the Mets was his main motivation to opt out.

Tucker is from, or lives in Charlotte from what I heard.
Still 7 hour drive from Baltimore but generally both in Mid-Atlantic area. Seems to be to far to be a consideration but it is one of the 2 teams that is closest to Charlotte (Atlanta, Baltimore/Washington).

So maybe a factor like that comes into consideration, where he accepts an offer that is in the similar realm even if lower.
