Five year contract extension for Russ Atkins just announced by Shapiro. Looks like Shatkins will outlast the Anthopoulos regime

MLB plan would relocate Bisons to Trenton to start season | Baseball | buffalonews.com
With heavy construction underway at Sahlen Field in advance of another season of Toronto Blue Jays games in Buffalo, Major League Baseball is working on a plan to move the Bisons at least temporarily to Trenton, N.J.
Multiple sources in the sport have confirmed the move to The Buffalo News and an announcement could be imminent from MLB, the Blue Jays, and the Herd.
The Bisons' temporary home for the 2021 season would be the former Arm & Hammer Park that housed the Double-A Trenton Thunder since 1994. The 6,200-seat facility is currently unnamed. The Thunder were a New York Yankees affiliate since 2003 but the Yankees opted to move their Double-A franchise to Somerset, N.J., for this season and Trenton was left out of affiliated baseball in MLB's reorganization of the minors that took place last fall.
It's unclear how long the Bisons would stay in Trenton. They could be there for only a month or two or they could spend the entire season there and Triple-A baseball would thus not be held in Buffalo until April 2022, while the Blue Jays are playing games here for a second straight season.
Bisons officials had no comment when contacted Thursday.
The Triple-A club's uncertain situation is completely dependent on the Blue Jays getting approval from the Canadian government to play games in Rogers Centre. With Covid-19 cases on the rise and Ontario entering another lockdown this week, it's unlikely the Blue Jays will be approved anytime soon.
The Jays held their "home opener" Thursday night at TD Ballpark in Dunedin, Fla., against the Los Angeles Angels. They are scheduled to play all 22 of their April and May home games in their spring training stadium.
The Bisons, meanwhile, are scheduled to open the season May 4 with a home game against the Worcester Red Sox. The team has 12 home games in May (May 4-9 vs. Worcester and May 11-16 vs. Rochester), and all of them would be played in Trenton under the plan.
Things become more unclear as the calendar hits June. While the Bisons would remain in Trenton, heat and late afternoon rain make Dunedin a poor option for the Blue Jays to stay in Florida and they are expecting to come to Buffalo.

Re: General Blue Jays Thread, 2020
There are 170 pitchers in MLB with 10+ IP this season. Among those, Tommy Milone is 26th in xERA, 11th in FIP, and 8th in xFIP.
He's also 169th (but of course) in fastball velocity, above only knuckle-scraping submariner, Tyler Rogers.

Re: General Blue Jays Thread, 2020
So all the rumored FA Pitcher options that we were looking at in 2020 aren't looking so hot right now.
James Paxton - Out for the season, 1.1 innings pitched
Jake Odorizzi - Currently sporting 10+ ERA, 8 innings pitched in 3 games, and on the IL now (Still early...)
Chris Archer - 6.5 ERA, 4.1 innings pitched
Chase Anderson - 6.5 ERA, 16.2 innings pitched
Matt Shoemaker - I thought he would be decent even though always injured, is off to his worst start of 6+ ERA, in 19 innings.
Who has actually been good?
Walker looked pretty good, Kohei Arihara looks decent.
I'm just thinking Jays might have to think big next year....all the "fringe gamble pitcher signings look to have been mainly bust around the league".

Re: General Blue Jays Thread, 2020
This was a terrible year for FA starters; there were a grand total of six multiyear contracts handed out and yeah: to date, the results haven't been great.
Next year's crop features some more big names, but if the likes of Verlander/Greinke/Kershaw aren't on the move, the middle class is okay but it isn't spectacular. There's Stroman, but he probably isn't coming back, for younger FAs looking for long-term deals you have E-Rod, Gausman and Zach Davies (and Matz, if he keeps this up), for older guys on short deals there's Lynn and Morton among others.
I'd expect that we could find a decent FA SP in there, but we could really use the kids stepping up to fill one or more rotation spots ably, because it's not an FA class that really screams opportunities to fill what, at current, is basically every rotation spot after Ryu.

Hyun Jin Ryu placed on injured list with right glute strain - MLB.com
The Blue Jays have placed Hyun Jin Ryu on the 10-day IL with a right glute strain, after the ace was forced to leave his last start on Sunday.
The move comes as Toronto activates star outfielder George Springer, who made his Blue Jays debut on Wednesday night against the Nationals at TD Ballpark. Injuries have been the story of April for Toronto, and while the club isn’t expecting Ryu to miss more than one start, this further challenges a rotation that has already been stretched very thin.
Ryu played catch over the past couple of days, attempting to work through his regular routine, but was still feeling a touch of discomfort in his right glute.
“It’s still there a little bit, but not enough that he’s going to miss a long time,” said manager Charlie Montoyo. “Our hope right now is that he’s going to miss a start and hopefully throw his next start, probably next week. That’s our hope.”
As the Blue Jays have seen with Springer and other injuries this season, though, timelines for strains and soft tissue injuries can be difficult to project. At the earliest, Ryu could return for the May 6 finale against the A’s in Oakland.
“He [got] an MRI and he’s fine,” Montoyo said. “It’s like what we thought it was with a mild strain, but because of the days off, he’s only going to miss one start and that’s how we see it right now. We talked to him and he said he was fine with that. He could pitch next week in Oakland.”
Toronto’s rotation now lines up with Robbie Ray in Friday’s opener against Atlanta in Dunedin, Fla., but from there it’s more of the same April mix-and-match, as the Blue Jays piece this together. Saturday lines up as a bullpen day while Ross Stripling, who’s currently on the IL with a right forearm flexor strain, could make the Sunday start if he’s able to return by then.

So we’ve been outscored 8-2 with Springer in the lineup this season.
Bad signing?
