Here's a discussion of BIchette's PCL sprain from a doctor who's also a Jays' fan. If he's right, then the most optimistic projection is Bo won't be able to play for 6.5 weeks from injury date (Sep 6) at the earliest which puts this timeline around the World Series tournament. Even if this is true, how likely would he be effective in the first few games after being out for 6.5 weeks?

In the absolute best case scenario, he could be a pinch hitter for one at bat like Kirk Gibson's walk off HR in the 1988 World Series. That'd be wild!

It's going to be evident that this team needs another decade-long rebuild as soon as next season.

Even in baseball you want long rebuilds. I love it. Apparently the 2017 Jays team with aging, expensive talent and no farm system didn't need to be rebuilt. But this team that is much younger needs a massive rebuild.

This team isn't young at all.

Gausman, Bassitt, Springer are all at the tail ends of their careers. Bo and Vladdy just completed their rookie contracts and will be taking up a huge chunk of the payroll moving forward. Our farm system is still weak and isn't graduating replacements for those aging players.

Definitely isn't young but if you compare it to 2016, all of our best players were old. To make matters worse, some of them were on horrible contracts. We also had a terrible farm system.

Most of our hitters are young. Our pitching is old though and we will need to replace some of them in the next couple of years. We have three 90+ win seasons and an 89 win season in the last 6 years. It's been a long time since we had this kind of success.

We did graduate replacement level players - Nathan Lukes, Loperfido, Little, FIsher etc

The problem with this roster is just that, we got a bunch of aging key players, and replacement level (or 1 war) young players to replace them.

Only way to "sustain" success is by spending in FA. Which as everyone saw, last offseason our FO moves in FA was a disaster.

I dunno, I think we're in a pretty good position to rebuild on the fly regardless of how things work out. We've got a few cornerstone pieces that are with us long term (Vlad, Kirk), a bunch of cheap up and coming talent (Barger, Yesavage most notably) and some tradable veterans if next year is more similar to 2024 than 2025 (Springer, Gausman).

We have a free buy-out option on Straw if he doesn't perform next year, and while we do have Gimenez's contract to deal with, we also have oodles of money from the ownership if they want to buy their way into contention.

We're not in the best position in the league, but I think we're in a fairly good place for flexibility going forward if we want to be.

Unfortunately you are going to have Berrios, Gimenez, and Santander accounting for 65 million in payroll for the 2027 and 2028 seasons with those ridiculous contracts.

Vladdy was so unbelievably bad the last 14 games lmao (we somehow went 8-6) .375 OPS and 1 extra base hit. Hes so lucky the team picked him up. Hes always hit the Yankees well tho so maybe he finally wakes up and the week off did him good.

Vladdy has talked a bit of smack about the Yankees aside from saying he'd sign with them. :)

That being said... It is put up or shut up time. He needs to have a good series or will deserve the criticism he will certainly find from all over the baseball universe. You're a 500m player... You have to shine when the lights are bright.

No way.

You got to give Biebs 2 starts if the ALDS goes 5 games. Starting Biebs game 1 is no brainer

Nah. I think they go Gaus game 1

Good teams graduate elite talent, not just replacement level players. This FO has done an abysmal job of identifying young talent during their decade of running the team.

As crappy as losing Bo is, their infield D is pretty special with Kirk, Barger, Gimenez, Clement and Vladdy. The OF is also pretty effin good with any combination of Varsho/Straw/Schneider/Lukes/Springer.

Stay clear of Judge, and keep it in the yard

They clearly weren’t familiar with playoff/big game Vlad when he turns into John McDonald
