Affiliates 3-0 last night led by another strong AAA start by Geremi Gonzalez - 6 innings, 0 runs, 3 hits, 5 K's. A shutout relief inning was contributed by each of Vermilyea, Wolfe(0.75 ERA) and Houston. At the plate, Ryan Roberts and Alex Olmedo each had 2 hits.

Orlando Trias went 6 innings for Dunedin, surrendering 9 hits but only one run. Again shutout relief innings by each of Sero, Harang and Core. Brian Jerolman had 4 hits bringing him out of an early season slump. 3 hits for Cory Patton, raising his average to .325. Eric Neilson also had 3(.305) while Anthony Hatch had 2(.273) Ryan Patterson returned to action and was 1 for 5. I imagine he will be moved to AA once his rehab is complete.

Chase Lirette had his worst start of the season giving up 6 runs(only 3 earned) in 5 1/3 innings. His ERA though is a stunning 1.50. Pinto and Phillips contributed 2.1 and 1 inning of SO hurling respectively. Travis Snider jumped his average to .404 with 2 more hits. Guiterrez and Bell each had 2.

Though it was an ordinary 2-2 for the affiliates, last night produced only one standout performace and that was 7 innings of 2 hit, no run ball from Russ Savickas for Dunedin. Among starters, Adrian Martin had a decent go for Lansing while Mike MacDonald and Ismael Ramirez struggled mightily at AA and AAA respectively. Brian Wolfe did pitch another shutout inning for Syracuse and Lansing's Seth Overbey kept his ERA at 0.000 by raising his string of shutout relief innings to 14 2/3. Ray Olmedo has 3 hits for Syracuse. Josh Kreuzer had 3 hits(Dunedin) while Anthony Hatch(Dunedin) and Josh Bell(Lansing) each had 2.

Wayne Lydon had 3 hits for Syracuse in a losing cause. Ryan Klosterman(still slumping) made 2 safeties for NH while Kyle Yates pitched 7 innings of 2 run ball, also in a losing cause. A comeback win by Dunedin was fueled by a homer and a game winning double by catcher Brian Jerolman(DH this game). Ryan Patterson, continuing his rehab, contributed 2 hits. Danny Core pitched 2.2 innings of scoreless relief. The only highlite for the losing Lansing squad was 5 innings of SO relief by Chris Reddout. Travis Snider was 0-4, his average now .375.

The bigs news from the farm last night was John Thomson's fine rehab outing for Syracuse. Perhaps, we will see him in TO soon? Towers designated? Back to Thomson - 5.22 IP, 1 R, 2 hits, 3 K's. Pitching was the order of the day throughout the system. At NH, Ricky Romero lasted 2+ innings of 1 run ball before coming out with "discomfort". Kurt Isenberg had a fine start at Dunedin - 5 IP, no runs on 5 hits with 8 K's. Perhaps this lefthander is finally getting it together. Zach Dials is back on track for Lansing, huirling 5 innings of 1 run ball.

Among hitters, Cory Patton had 3 hits and a walk for Dunedin while Josh Kreuzer stroked a HR and a 2b. Sergio Santos hit his 7th(league leading HR for NH - impressive in that his home park is an extreme pitchers park.

I don't like it when pitchers unexpectedly come out of games for "discomfort". Hopefully he's ok.

....while Cameron Maybin has a 1.011 OPS in A+ having just turned 20.

Man, that draft just pisses me off.

Definitely could have used higher upside guys like Matt Garza or Michael Pelfrey.

But of course, a guy who's best attribute was "poise" and not talent needs to be taken with the 6th pick.

In fairness Aaron Hill could be described as a Romero-type pick. But yeah... I wanted Maybin pretty bad.

Josh Banks turned in a quality start for Syracuse, going 7 innings while allowing 3 runs on 7 hits. David Purcey allowed 4 runs(1 unearned over 5 innings at NH while Brandon Magee seems to have recovered from his early season woes, hurling 5 SO innings on only 2 hits for Dunedin. The game was later lost when reliever Conor Falkenbach imploded. Kyle Ginley struggled for the 2nd consecutive time for Lansing, allowing 5 runs on 8 hits while being pulled during the 5th. Ed Rodriguez, having an outstanding season so far, gave up 1 hit over 1 2/3 innings with 3 K's. As a side note, Ricky Romero has been shut down for 10 days with a mild inflamation in the shoulder.

There was some good offence last night. Ray Olmedo at AAA went 2-2 with 2 walks. Besides being an outstanding defender, he is now hitting over .300. Could he be the ss we are looking for? For NH, Sergio Santos stroked 2 more HR's while David Smith and Aaron Mathews each had 3 hits. With Dunedin, Cory Patton had another 3 hit game raising his average to .352. Travis Snider had a 2 hit game for Lansing.

The system seems to be well populated with outfielders who are thriving. With 10 picks of the first 180 in the June draft, it would seem wise to concentrate on pitchers, infielders and catchers.

Jesse Litsch was the hero of last night's action, pitching an 8 inning five hitter, a HR being the only run scored against him. NH was the only winning team and it is reflected in the highlites. Aaron Mathews, having a great season so far, collected 3 hits, while the slow starting Dustin Majewski had 3. Ty Taubenheim had a horrible start for Syracuse lasting less than 4 innings with 8 5uns scored. At the plate Curis Thigpen was 2-2 with a walk. Aaron Wideman had his 1st start for Dunedin and it was a quality one- 2 ER in 6 innings but reliever Kristian Bell gave up the lead and the game with a poor relief outing. Anthony Hatch had 2 hits. Sean Shoffit had 2 hits for Lansing and Travis Snider one. The story here was 2 more SO innings by Seth Overbey now at 16 3/3 for the season.

Santos at NH: BA- .271. OBP- .330, SLG-.706, OPS- 1.036, Hr-9, RBI -22, BB-6, SO-16. Yes, a good season so far, only the last 2 numbers that could be better. Still, it appears that he has at least regained prospect status within the organization.

Santos is not a prospect. He doesn't walk nearly enough, and by all accounts his defense is awful.
If he keeps hitting like this he could become something, but there's almost no chance he does.

Yesterday produced more hitting highlites than pitching. At AAA, Russ Adams collected 4 safeties to raise his average to .255. Ryan Roberts also had 2 and is hitting .288. JF Griffin raised his average to .255 with two of the same. John Hattig had 2 hits as well yet is still wallowing with a .211 BA. At AA, Juan Peralta stroked 3 (including a triple) while Sergio Santos, Aaron Mathews and Dustin Majewski had 2 hits each. Mathews is now hitting .337. For Lansing, Chris Emmanuele had 3 hits and Josh Bell 2. There was better pitching at this level as starter Chase Lirrette gave up 3 runs on 5 hits with 5 k's through 5 innings. His ERA stands at 2.17. Reliever Chris Reddout provided 2 shutout innings of 1 hit ball, lowering his ERA to 1.08.

The only winning pitching performace las night was the courtesy of young Russ Savickas ( a gasp- high school pick in 02). Russ went 5 innings as a starter, giving up 2 earned runs (8 hits, 3 K's) in a Dunedin victory. Ismael Ramirez finally turned in a quality start for Syracuse - 7 IP, 9 hits, 2 ER, 2 K"s. Nate Starner gave up 3 runs in 5 innings for Lansing while Kyle Yates surrendered 5 in 4 for NH. Most noteable of relief appearances was Seth Overbey's extension of scoreless innings to 17 2/3 with another 1 inning zero for Lansing.

Multiple hit games were turned in by: Jonathan Diaz, Chris Emmanuele, Carlo Cota(3), Joey Hetherington, Corey Patton, Ryan Patterson(3), Juan Peralta, Robinson Diaz, Dustin Majewski and Curtis Thigpen.

Jonathan Diaz is that defensive wunderkind right? How's he doing this season?
