This bickering is getting irritating.

Either way here, what's the consensus. Does AA make this move if the Angels don't sign Josh and the Tigers don't retain Sanchez? He'd never admit to it, but was this deal really in a vacuum.

What in the world does that have to do with our discussion about 'windows'?

Going all in... Taking advantage of Windows... Overpaying. Connect the dots.

Again, I repeat, If AA has stumbled upon new found wealth, he should have scoured Free Agency and atleast kept his good prospects. Trading for Dickey is a bad business decision because it is not like trading for Latos or Gio (who will command below market salary for few years). Dickey is going to get paid AND he is 38. If there was no one better available on the trade market, there was an Edwin Jackson and an Anibal Sanchez available in Free agency. And if Jackson or a Sanchez isn't good enough to give that one last push for the playoffs, Neither is Dickey.

The trolling is people thinking it's actually justified to hate this trade in any respect. Because it's either trolling or foolishness.

I wouldn't say it's trolling, it's just people who have grown far too attached to prospects while the big league team was mediocre AND have been spoiled with AA ripping off other GM's in most trades. They can't understand when he has to slightly overpay to make a necessary trade in order for this team to contend.

i think a lot of peoples concerns are regarding dickey himself, given the price to acquire him, he leaves a lot to be desired-- 38 yrs old, leaving citifield, etc etc etc....

great to see the jays going all in, however, it sure would be great if we traded for, well, somebody else--after next season JJ walks and we;re left with a 40 yr old dickey, an overpaid buerle, morrow, ricky and nothing else---we have a very very very SMALL window regardless of how the yankees and red sox respond.

I don't like this trade that much. I just don't think Dickey is that good of a pitcher. Last season was the first season he put up a season that was better than mediocre. And he is 38 years old.

No, it wasn't. This has been by far the most annoying part of this thread/debate. Last year was not his only good year, he has had 3 very good years since switching to the knuckle ball.

Don't bother. A good number of the posters in this thread have been bored Raptor fans.

So you are just purposely ignoring his previous two years or what?

If TDA can't play catcher then you do this trade ASAP before the rest of the league finds out.

As somebody else said, don't bother. Some of the people spitting this out really don't know or don't understand baseball stats while some guys, like this one, just keep saying it because it fits into their anti-Dickey agenda.

You can say, last year was his first Cy Young level year.

But, to suggest that his last 2 seasons were mediocre is beyond ridiculous. I'm not sure why people keep saying this.

3 seasons ago he posted a 2.84 ERA, 3.4 bWAR (which prorates to 4.3 bWAR if he played 33 games).
2 seasons ago he posted a 3.28 ERA , and a 3.1 bWAR.

I'm not sure what universe these are mediocre #'s, but it isn't this one.

You're correct in theory and that would certainly be selling high on TDA but he is a pretty good defensive catcher. The only reason he'd be moved from catcher is because of the injury problems he'd been having but I don't think that's an issue right now.

But no where has it been suggested that he cant play catcher. But I do agree.
