Does Osuna come out for the 9th?
Is anybody here a marine biologist?

Anyone pissed off watching Osuna pitch for the Astros? Angry the way it ended. If the incident didn't happen he would still be a Blue Jay ****!

I'd be much happier had the incident not happened, but even if it hadn't, that trade was actually pretty good. Osuna was easily the most obvious player to move this season for a rebuild. I don't need to see Osuna toil away for a terrible team until he leaves in free agency, or worse, signs a massive long term contract with the Jays in free agency.

Oakland now just 2 games back of Houston. With a win today and Astros loss.

The Mets are considering Blue Jays assistant GM Tony LaCava and Rays special assistant Bobby Heck as candidates to be their next general manager, according to Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe. Neither man has been a GM before, though both LaCava and Heck have a wealth of front office experience, particularly in the areas of scouting and player development. LaCava has been with the Blue Jays since 2002, when J.P. Ricciardi (now a Mets special advisor) was Toronto’s GM. Heck has been with the Rays since 2012, following lengthy stints with the Astros and Brewers that saw him play a notable role as both those clubs amassed a strong collection of young talent.

About time:

“There’s a movement within baseball” to extend the non-waiver trade deadline from July 31 to mid-August, and eliminate the August waiver period, according to Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe. “The way it is now is just futile. If you’re a good team, you constantly get blocked for players that could be useful to you,” one NL official tells Cafardo. From a league standpoint, eliminating the trade waiver process would also cut down on a lot of paperwork and red tape. It isn’t clear if there is sentiment from both the owners and the MLBPA to change the August trading process, as such mutual agreement would be required for the deadline to be extended.

Bautista hit a 99.5 mph pitch for a home run off Severino tonight.

Third fastest pitch hit for a HR this year.

Indians Centerfielder Leonys Martin Dealing With Bacterial Infection That Affected Multiple Organs

Cleveland Indians president of baseball operations Chris Antonetti told reporters on Monday that the medical outlook for centerfielder Leonys Martin appears to be good as he tries to recover from a bacterial infection.

Antonetti said that as of a few days ago, the infection was life threatening and had affected multiple of Martin's organs. Cleveland had placed Martin on the disabled list on Aug. 9 with a non-baseball condition.

"We're optimistic that he'll have a full recovery," Antonetti told reporters. "Now, to give you a little bit of backstory of how we got to this point, Leonys had a bacterial infection that entered his blood stream, and when it entered his blood stream, it produced toxins. Those toxins did damage to his internal organs and the functioning of those organs was compromised, and it was severe. ... Thankfully, he's made a lot of progress in the last 24 to 36 hours, and he's regained a lot of the organ function."

Jeez.

The Archer trade now looks substantially better for the Rays, given that Shane Baz was the PTBNL.

Given the deal is now complete, would you trade Stroman for a similar offer?

I'd have been happy to see Stroman traded for that package. That's a pretty darn good haul overall. Meadows looks pretty darn good, and Glasnow looks decent, though is a reliever that this point I feel. Baz is a lot farther away than those 2, but also looks really good and is a good bet to be a starter down the line.

Stroman is awesome and i want him to be on the Jays for a very long time but if someone is offering you 3 top prospects with 2 of them MLB ready then you need to take it and run.

A's and Mariners in a scoreless tie in the 10th inning. Oakland is a game back of the Astros and struggling to get more than 10,000 people per game. They also play the Astros this weekend.

Pity whoever misses the playoffs in the AL; the Mariners are currently the odd man out, but would be 1 game back of the best record in the NL.
