A deal that allowed us to retain and extend this guy on a cheap contract while also adding one of the most valuable outfielders in baseball in his prime. Can you beat that?

A deal that allowed to D'Backs to retain their near-MVP level player at pre-arb $, get the best player in the deal AND get ANOTHER player that replaced the production of their outgoing oft-injured part-time catcher/OF who had a career year and has regressed ever since? All of that resulting in a WS appearance in Year 1 of the deal? Can't beat that.

Looking at the perspective of Arizona, they are much better off making that deal, and their GM said so in Spring Training that they would make it again 10 out of 10 times. Clear winners of that trade in both 2023 and 2024 given the above average offensive production of both Gurriel and Moreno in both years. That could change however in 2025, if Varsho can pick off where he left off and continue to hit homers like he was doing the rest of the way. Time will tell.

Best catcher in Jays history and I don’t think it’s even a question anymore.

imagine ever slandering alejandro kirk. a staggering amount of horrid takes in this thread from the light-hitting lovers club, while others identified kirky being a good hitter again as a likely outcome.

Bautista outplays his contract by more than $70 million over the next four seasons (2013-2016).

122 wRC+, 2.2 WAR in early June. It’s probably the best extension this franchise has ever signed with a player after Jose Bautista (which was also hilariously criticized).

Imagine calling a below average hitter the last two years a below average hitter and it being called slander. I’m actually a Kirk fan, but this revisionist history is hilarious.

And as expected, another hitless night for Varsho. Time to cut bait, and extend Clase.

And of course, Carroll with another homer.

Don’t even know what means.

But calling him a below average hitter last two year was pretty justified. If posters thought he’d be better playing at a lower weight, I think that’s fine. He was generally a pretty solid hitter until the last couple of years, it’s fair to wonder what was causing the struggles and if weight could be a factor.

Kirk had a terrible OPS of .692 in 2023, and .677 in 2024. His BA, On Base and SLG was also much lower than his 2022 Season. It is not slander to call him a below average hitter the past two years, because his numbers reflected that.

Also, it was not fat shaming to say that maybe his struggles the past two years was because of his weight, because he looked nothing like 2022 Kirk. However, 2025 Kirk is a different player than 2023/2024 Kirk and is the Blue Jays MVP so far. Even more valuable than the 500 million man Vlad.
