Classy - obvious disappointment and sadness but still is able to say that he looks forward to be a Jay.

Re: Jays 2024 Trade Deadline Thread
They trying to compete for next year, they gotta keep Bass and co.
The question is will they keep IKF, who will no doubt likely regress to his career norms next year.
So tomorrow deadline day, who else from the Jays is traded, only 2 rental players left (KK and Richards) who have likely negative value, and we have to eat all their salary to maybe get something more than bag of balls, but who knows.
Do you see any surprises being moved? Green? Another starting pitcher?
Guess we can start the Votto watch, since Turner is gone, will they bring him up before they play Cincy at home in middle of august, though he hasn't played since middle of July....

Re: Jays 2024 Trade Deadline Thread
Astros fans losing their minds on Twitter (lol). Feels good when the shoe is on the other foot, since I have similarly lost my mind at various moves this front office has made over the years. However, this was a total fleece job which I never expected. This was a return I expected for a guy like Gausman one week ago (given his contract and age also), when I was pondering some trades in my mind. I was not expecting much for Kikuchi given his recent struggles, and the fact he is a two month rental.
I would have been happy with one high ceiling guy in Double AA, given how terrible Kikuchi has been since Mid June. Looking like the 2022 Kikuchi in 7 of his last 8 Starts, with an ERA of 7.75 combined in his last 8 Starts. Surely, James Click had a big role in making this trade, since he was familiar with 2 of 3 players coming back. I would not mind Click being the new GM of the team, but I applaud Shatkins for once on making this excellent trade. Job well done and congrats to the organization.

If this is the market, trade everyone but Vlad and Bo.

Vlad should be traded too if this org actually got honest about what it is at this point…

Curious as to why he should be traded

What about Varsho? Shouldn’t we be looking to trade him as well?

Presumably the money he’s going to be looking for.
9. Similarly, IF THOU HAST SPENT the entire offseason predicting that thy team will stink, thou shalt not gloat, nor even be happy, shouldst thou turn out to be correct. Realistic analysis is fine, but be a fan first, a smug smarty-pants second.

I guess. Depends on the deal I suppose.
300/30/90-100 with gold glove defense at 25. I'd lock that up.

Because he’s a free agent in a year and the Jays are absolutely terrible with no real prospects of success in 2025? The list of reasons to trade him right now are far longer than the list to keep him.

So why not sign / extend him at 26 and use him as a cornerstone while we build up a contender?

Because, if he maintains this for the rest of the season, he’s going to be asking for minimum 350M over 10+ years which he will never even come close to being worth and for a large portion of the deal the Jays will be terrible?
Trading Vlad at peak value is how you turn this entire ship around much quicker.

Vlad is an atrocious defender btw. -3 DRS this season (and -6 last season) which ranks among the worst of any 1B. He actively hurts the team playing the field when he’s out there.

I can see the argument for keeping Green, but there is no need to keep IKF. So sell high there.
With the great season Green is having, his value is higher than ever. He is also owed 10.5 million next year, and given his injury history, now is the perfect time to deal him with the supposed interest out there for him.
I agree the time to trade him is now, but I doubt Shatkins is looking to deal players that could be decent in 2025 like Green or IKF. Keep that re-tool alive in their minds. I certainly don't agree with that strategy, but I'm fairly certain that is what they are thinking.
The problem with IKF, is that a lot has happened since he was signed. He's certainly returned more value than most fans - and some forecasters - expected. But he is standing in the way of younger guys now. IKF is ready to return, and Bo Bichette will hopefully return in mid-August, and I don't see the future value in forcing Barger or Jimenez back to Buffalo. The Jays' moves have created space for pitchers, at catcher, 1B/DH, and assuming Kiermaier finds a new home today, an outfielder. They haven't created space for infielders, and need to play these kids to measure their potential and further their development in a lost season.

I can see IKF being moved as it might benefit the re-tool next year. He's not getting much in return, but as you noted there are replacements for him. Also clears money to be spent on the bullpen next offseason.
But I can't see Green being moved. Our bullpen is a mess heading into next year.
I don't agree with the re-tool mentality - but I believe that is where Shatkins is right now.

Vlad just seems like one of those guys that will coast after getting big pay day. Not sure how common that is in baseball though. In a very stat heavy sport, I’d imagine most never live up to the big dollars.
2019 Eastern Conference All Stars
Derozan
Lowry
Ibaka
Valanciunas
Van Vleet
Delon Wright
Lebron
Embiid
There are only 2 teams in the league that rank in the top 6 in offensive and defensive efficiency: the Golden State Warriors and the Toronto Raptors.

Yeah I'm with the guys here about being suspicious of Vlad and his recent run. Just doesn't feel like it will last after a payday
I'm still high on him because he still seems to have the tools to be a better player than he is but I think unless the team is a contender he's going to sleepwalk through a lot of seasons.
He also makes a lot of low IQ plays on the field and I don't know if that's fixable

Re: Jays 2024 Trade Deadline Thread
Where would you put Vlad’s ~ value right now, closer to high or low? Sincere question, realized I had him locked into ‘low’ and hadn’t adjusted to his recent play enough, so wondering what people think. If his value is indeed approaching high I’d recommend trading him, if his value is about average I’d think about it.
