Re: General Blue Jays Thread, 2020
Well, I'm not surprised. I'll give him the benefit. Maybe give him more confidence by bringing in his own staff.
But I sure hope he learned from his mistakes. I'm more concerned about how badly the playoffs were managed. Does one game really change the outlook on how we see John Schneider as Jay's manager? I'm not sure. I guess it depends on how the roster/staff looks going into next season.
I also worried that if our GM isn't in the clouds and picks up on the problem and does something fast. The Blue Jays cannot repeat that cycle again.
Like always, that lovely quote we hear time and time again, " we shall see".

He made a bunch of the same mistakes during the season too. The one game that it caught up to us was in the playoffs, when every mistake is magnified a whole lot.

I just found out Bruce Bochy was hired by the Rangers. Now that would have been a golden horseshoe to pick imo.

okay so you brought in a coach that hte players like and respect. great. Now get players that no matter the situation, he can't screw up i.e. get some great pitchers for our bullpen. get some players that can pinch hit well. just get better players. makes the manager's job much easier.

He did get on Vlad for not running hard out of the box. I'll give him that.

both Bochy and Maddon are too strong and make their own decisions to be Atkins' puppet in the dugout

[Davidi] The Blue Jays’ focuses, according to an industry source, appear to be on adding a starter and two relief pieces, with a lean toward the rental side

How would you rate an off-season that consisted of merely:
-dropping tapia (or retaining and including him in a trade)
-signing Carlos rodon
-trading a catcher

Re: General Blue Jays Thread, 2020
I just feel Brantley will be here at some point. 35, lefty, of, ops decreasing 3 years in a row but still 785 last year in injury year, cleveland ties, almost here before, springers friend, veteran , shouldn’t be expensive or long term.
Fwiw from baseball trade values-Here are some trades people had suggested that the site grades as near equal value. See if any peak your fancy.
Kirk, tiedemann, teo, Kikuchi for ohtani.
Jansen and toman for turnbull and haase (tigers)
Tiedemann and espinal for Cedrick Mullins
Kirk for Pablo lopez
Espinal for Ian Happ
Jansen for karinchak and curry (Cleve)
Moreno for Reynolds (Pitt)
Jansen and lgj for Carlson and matz (stl)
Moreno for gallen (Ariz)
Moreno for. Bieber. (C leve)
Moreno and Orelvis for Burnes (mil)
Jansen for Mitchell (mil)

Re: General Blue Jays Thread, 2020
Hot take warning-
Springer and Kirk for ohtani lines up.
Sign Nimmo to replace springer.
If payroll doesn’t increase after a 20m increase this off-season-
Would leave about 70m (minus arby raises, my rough estimate 23m ~ so about 47m) after next year to replace/resign ohtani, chapman, teo and LGJ.
Coming off books - ohtani, chap, teo, lgj, ryu, springer, witt, grichuck.
Coming on books - nimmo
Keeps another year of the farm growing which should produce a few reinforcements for the departed
Projected levels in 2023 of promising prospects:
Pearson -aaa/mlb
Ricky t - aa/aaa
Orelvis-aa/aaa
Barger aaa/mlb
Lopez aaa/mlb
Zulu aa/aaa
Palmer aa/aaa
Van eyk aa
Robberse aa/aaa
Gabe Martinez aa
