Is there any info on Bichette's recovery?

I've found zero mentions on this topic anywhere, as if it wasn't the most potentially unsettling thing that could happen to the Blue Jays. The idea of Bo Brett-Lindrossing out of the league would be an unmitigated tragedy.

Jansen and Smoak named finalists, not that gold gloves are the best measuring stick but it's something.

I’m a big fan of wheeler’s, but the thought of giving him 4 or 5 years (which he’ll want) makes me queazy.

If we could get any two out of odorizzi, Pineda, keuchel, Martin Perez, wacha or alex woods I’d be thrilled.

If Martin Perez and Michael Wacha are our offseason acquisitions, I'm never buying a ticket for this team again. haha. Those two are hot trash.

Alex Wood is an interesting guy. Groundball pitcher, coming off a bad/injured year, with some upside. Might get him for a decent 1 year contract with a club option. Odorizzi will be more expensive but he ticked up his whiff rate nicely this year. I don't know that targeting a 30 year old mediocre starter coming off a career year is the best move for a team that is probably more suited to compete in 2021 than 2020.

All this to say: go get us Gerrit Cole. The hype for this team will be back for sure. Sell more season ticket packages, and put a better team on the field.

A pitcher who pitches every five or six days isn't going to sell a lot of season tickets.

I was trying to be realistic. First off, there's no chance we're getting Cole. He's looking at around 8/200. Even one of 2nd tier guys is wishful thinking for us, as the Yankees, Red Sox, Braves, Dodgers, and others will be looking to add 1/2/3 starters.

$200m/8 is actually pretty light. I'm as adverse to megacontracts as anyone, but I'd do that without much hesitation. I'd imagine that it'll be closer to $250m/8, though, and Boras will spend the first couple months hunting $300m/10.

I'm still seriously dubious that "hype" is really worth chasing. We built for hype for years and years, and it rarely had the impact people would expect. In 1997, we signed a three-time Cy Young award winner out of nowhere, and attendance jumped...by an average of 367 fans per night. In 2008, we went on a big spending spree that had a lot of people thinking playoffs...attendance spiked by less than 500 fans per night. The 2013 spending spree did produce a noticeable increase, though that faded pretty quickly thereafter, to the extent that 2015 attendance was pretty bleak until results turned positive.

Attendance should be treated as what it is: a lagging indicator. Build a team that can be competitive for an extended period and we'll never have to worry about hype.

Boras is all about breaking previous records. No coincidence Harper got $330m to beat Stanton's $325m. The biggest contract for a pitcher is 7/217 for Price, and highest AAV is $34m for Greinke. I think if you offer Cole 7/245, breaking both records for pitchers (AAV and total value), it should be enough unless another team offers more. I'd do that (and frontload the first 3 years), but Shatkins definitely would not.

Looking at the FA list, I think we will end up with Kyle Gibson on a deal similar to what Happ got in 2016.

Wacha and Perez seem like the type of guys our front office would look at: young vets with relatively high floors and significant untapped upside. The potential for surplus value is fap worthy.

It is still something especially for Jansen, who was a more offensive oriented at the beginning of the season, end up as a gold glove finalist. A big turnaround! Hope he can make some progress with the bat and become the hitter that everyone was expected him to be next year.

Jansen showed an ability to block many pitches avoiding an error, as well as throws to 2nd base being fairly accurate and quick.

Out of 41 wild pitches Jansen was charged with a passed ball only 4 times.

Signing any pitcher for 7 years and over $200m is a bad idea, even one as good as Cole.

Names that the Rogers mouth piece employees bring up don't leave a lot to be desired about - They should really bring on Bell and Larry T so they can spend smartly with the big boys.
