Imagine how bad this team will get with its atrocious offense and 3 SPs if Garcia and Hoffman are already gassed by early May.
At least we might have the kind of disaster season that might wake ownership up about this FO.

This season could get ugly. A lineup of about 5 #9 guys, aging starters and a bullpen getting burnt out in May. Not a good look and you can't even take solace in the fact that it will lead to change because the leaders have no accountability.

It feels like this organization has been trying to win every game 2-1 or 3-1 for the last 3 years and they still haven't realized that's not a sustainable strategy to win games over a full season.

Just like Masai holding onto that 2019 team too long to chase play-in spots, and eventually trading them for pennies on the dollar (Siakam, OG) or losing them for nothing (FVV), this front office is going to regret not opting for a full rebuild two seasons ago. If they had, they could've restocked the farm system, and the last two years would've led to progress rather than seeing the same issues year after year. More importantly, we could've traded Vlad for a serious haul, and not be saddled with his ridiculous anchor of a contract for the next decade and a half. This expanded playoff system really sucks. All it does is give justification for front offices to hold onto mediocre rosters hoping to get lucky. That shouldn't be how you build a team.

You guys were quick to call Hoffman the goat closer. Osuna never broke down even when overused.

That’s not how you build a farm system and this team did tank for a few seasons. Despite this start the jays are 3.5 games back in the AL east.

They're lucky to be 3.5 games back. Their run differential is like the fifth worst in the entire major leagues and the Pythagorean win/loss is 13-22. The team is lucky to even be 16-19 right now. We squeaked through some games by overly relying on our starting pitchers to be perfect and overworking our top 2-3 guys in the pen like Yimi and Hoffman. As we saw from last night's game, eventually that's going to catch up and those guys will falter.
And it's not a slow start from the offence when this exact lineup was mediocre all of last season too and RISP was a consistent issue. The offence is actually worse this year over last year. If you look at the bottom four of the lineup on most nights, you can see why.
I don't entirely blame the front office. Individually there's a lot of talent on this team. But it just feels like this core consistently performs less than the sum of its parts. And it doesn't help that not a single prospect given the chance (Wagner, Roden, Barger, Clement, Schneider etc.) has been able to come up and perform.

Defensively we really only need emphasis on CF and C, maybe SS. Every other position, on field defense should not be prioritized over batting. Instead we are trying to field a team of 9 Ryan Goins.
Giving 20 mil+ to Gimenez and like 8M to Myles Straw is a fireable offense. I give it another month before we are comfortably out of the race.

Speaking of atrocious offense- that is what your MVP hero Varsho was the last two games. 6 strikeouts and going 0 for 8 and looking like the Varsho we all remember from 2023/2024. Striking out like a fool time after time chasing bad pitches. Easy to get excited about one game last week when you were having your orgasms, but then we remember how your Mike Trout 2.0 really is at the plate over the course of a few games. Remember Atkins said that Varsho was going to replace all the production lost by trading Teoscar Hernandez for Swanson (another move you rationalized at the time which made sense from your perspective).

Our pitchers have to pitch a gem every game for us to have a chance. 1 run in 6 innings, our bottom 5-9 is hitting 1-11 with 1 single.

Needed Berrios to go more than 6 innings to win, I expect. No RPs.

I told my son, Hoffman can’t walk the lead off batter.

Can we bring Romano back?
That Angels team is atrocious too and we are somehow even worse.

Hoffman turned into a pumpkin. His slider is getting knocked around.
