Mistake not adding #4 starting pitcher in the playoff roster. What if Yanks chase Bieber out early in the game 3 and Jays use up their pen in game 3. Who the starting pitcher(s) game 4?

BNS said they could IL Bruhl and go Bassitt if need be.

Yeah. Rodon is a bona fide playoff choker. Vlad also loves to hit him. He won't make it past 3 innings. I'm just not sure what to expect from Bieber.

Really hard to say whats real and not with Biebs since hes only had like 7 starts. But there are some red flags for me. His barrell rate and hard hit% are near the bottom of the league. When he misses his spots he gets hit hard. A team like the Yankees feast on guys missing their spots. Hell need to have elite control to be successful tonight. Hopefully the Yankees get overanxious and start chasing his curveball.

This is my thinking. A mysterious injury could coincidentally happen.

You just have to hope they’ve learned their lesson about IKF.

I'll take all of Luke, Barger and Santander over IKF. Although I sort of feel these 10 run games are only going to embolden the coaching staff to emphasize defence at the bottom of the lineup. They are probably not as "desperate" on that front, and Santander in the end has shown things but not enough for them to veer.

I think they go mid-way here. Take IKF out, and bring in Lukes. So you are taking IKF out but bringing in a good defensive player for him.

And as I said last game with Straw at the 9 spot, if you are behind you can bring in Santander to pinch hit in likely the fifth inning and only have one weaker plate appearance.

That's my guess what they do.

Rodon annihilates lefties. Just keep it simple and put the RHB Santander in.

I also think we may see Goldschmidt start today, possibly over Rice (although I could see them deciding to put Rice at catcher and take Wells out of the lineup). Rice is not good defensively there but they may decide they need to risk it.

Remember when Wells was so good that the Yankees put him batting leadoff?

What a weird season this has been.

Would we even start Yesavage in game 5 if it got to that lol. I would think it would be Gausman. But Yesavage would be available out the pen.

Gausman will start game 5.

Yesavage will be in play for some innings if necessary as well that day or alternatively even an inning or two tomorrow if we need it.

Its pretty bleak for SP in free agency and id take a risk on Bieber being good with a full training camp offseason. Maybe he does us a favor lol

I would rather just go all out and get a guy like Valdez with the money and contract length Bieber would ask for. Let Bichette, Bieber, Scherzer, Bassitt walk and get another elite relief pitcher, and two Starting Pitchers like Valdez and Ranger Suarez with the almost 70 million or so you are going to have to play with (along with the 10.5 million for Chad Green) not on with books for 2026.

Id be very weary of going all in on a guy like Valdez, massive headcase. I usually dont care about that stuff cause talent > everything. But what he did to that catcher this year was so of the most bush league stuff I think ive ever seen from a major leaguer. Hes also been atrocious in the playoffs since 2022 (where he was elite tbh). Sounds like a lot of headaches verse Bieber who I think still has a lot in the tank and seems pretty well adjusted and I can only imagine him getting better next year (tho still a risk post TMJ).

I would be shocked if Atkins hasn't already discussed potential extensions with Bieber. Plausibly those talks started before the trade was official.

I'm surprised IKF isn't batting 2nd. This team's obsession with him is obnoxious. If he could hit lefties, then at least you could understand it a little bit, but he's not only awful against lefties, he actually hits righties a lot better. So they aren't even using him to his strengths. Oh well. Just go out and win.
