He hasn't pitched that badly this year. Certainly better than any other 5 we've had in there......including Chacin, Zambrano, Ohka and Litsch.
It's nice to see the offence hitting it's stride. All due to Gregg Zaun......now we have Hill and Lind hitting 7 & 8 rather than 5 & 6......BIG TIME DIFFERENCE!
McGowan has been lights out his last number of starts. Towers doesn't walk anyone because he throwns the ball rigt down the middle all the time. After Halladay & Burnett, McGowan and Marcum are the next teir and IMO Towers is a ways back. He hasn't pitched all that badly but it's obvious his confidence is not there. As soon as he gets into a rough spot its lights out.

See the defending of Towers on this basis is a little off IMO. I agree that he didn't go out there and get shelled (today), but a loss is a loss.
Are you against Jack Morris as a Hall of Famer? The fact is his numbers suck, but the guy was a winner who pitched to the opposition. Many... MANY of his starts he simply pitched well enough to win (even if that was 6 runs in 7 innings).
Josh Towers is the ANTI-Jack Morris. Towers, for the past two years (and even in his contract year to a certain extent) pitches just poorly enough to lose. If the offense puts up a 7 spot, he'll be giving up 8- if the offense puts up 2 runs for him, he'll give up 3 or 4. That's 4 to a National League offense whose DH was hitting below the Mendoza line you'll note.
Right now we're seeing the fruits of throwing his *** out of the rotation and replacing him with youth last year in Marcum, McGowan, and Janssen. If the guy isn't going to win (not "give us a chance to win")... win, then I'd like to go with more youth.

The difference is Morris was a #1 starter, and Towers is a #5 - so the comparison doesnt work because there are different expectations for each role. You want your #5 to go out there and give your team a chance, and IMO, giving up 4 runs a game is giving your team a chance to win. A #1 goes out there expecting to win for his team every game.

Not really that big of a base-ball fan, but I watch the Jays every now and then, but it seems like they can never get over the hump. They always get to like a game below .500 and then lose a game or two to put them back 2 or 3 game below .500 . Do you think they will eventaully get over that hump and have a big winning streak to get them in the playoffs, well sence all the injuries the Jays have, I can't see it happening, B.J Ryan, they best closer they have is gone for the season which is a major impact on how they close out games. Do you think if B.J wan't injuried the Jays would have won a couple more games?
And do you think the Jays offseason was good or bad. I think that their offseason wasn't very good, they lost a couple of their players that had a key role last season, and really didn't gain that much in return. Another question is do you trust J.P to make the right moves at the right time. Can you see him pulling off some little moves or some big moves...I think he will make some minor moves, no big name players involved. I have to say, I trust J.P 100%, he has done wonders for the Jays over the years, and he also re-signed V.Well, which was a wonderfull move. If J.P hadn't re-signed V.Wells the Jays would have looked a lot different and probably a lot worse.
To sum it up really, I think the Jays have a very bright future, with the pitching staff and the players, in a couple years they Jays will be way up there compeating for a world Series again. And I can't wait.
Jays gonna win game 3

BINGO!
The fact that Frank Thomas had to come out and publicly castrate Towers in front of his own teammates just to barely keep the team in it is hardly a ringing endorsement of his start.
He didn't even look like he was trying two of the first three innings.
Come on, Josh, at least give it the college try!

Article from ESPN.
"Thomas wasn't so proud of Toronto starter Josh Towers (2-5), who allowed four runs and seven hits over seven innings. He walked one and struck out four.
Thomas verbally challenged Towers in the clubhouse after Towers gave up two runs on a pair of doubles and a two-out single in the second, allowing Washington to erase a 1-0 deficit.
"I told him 'Hey man, you got to go out there with some fire and not make similar mistakes,'" Thomas said. "He was living out over the plate too much early in the game, gave away some runs and that came back to haunt him. The rest of the game he pitched well, hit his spots and pitched with fire. We've just got to get him fired up early in the game from now on."
Towers had no problem with being dressed down by his teammate.
"It needs to be done sometimes," Towers said. "He's the guy that's not afraid to step up and let you know. It's a good thing."
Thomas might be struggling himself but i love his leadership and passion for winning.
