Re: Around the MLB
Walker graded out below average in almost every advanced metric. But his ERA outperformed those metrics because the Mets have a good defense (a rarity historically for the Mets).
Now, Walker goes to a team that had one of the worst defenses in baseball, which should make that $18m AAV look just spectacular.
MAXIMUM DOMBROWSKI.

Re: Around the MLB
40 mill per year doesn't seem like a big stretch considering what he brings the yankees in terms on/off the field. he's basically their franchise guy.
i'm sure vlad and manoah will get a big deals from us too and they'll be worth every penny. the question for rogers is if they'll pay bo too.

The main difference between him and Vlad/Manoah is that Aaron Judge will be 31 when the next season starts.

How should I feel about these pitchers taking less money to not play for us?
Is anybody here a marine biologist?

Who cares? Again, you're looking at it from the on-the-field perspective when that's maybe half of the consideration of this deal.
He's a property/entertainer, not just a player. And losing that for nothing when you have revenue out the ass and he's your main attraction is stupid.
What is 40 million when your franchise is worth 7 billion and you make 700 mill in revenue?

It's more about the decision making with the Jays stars is much simpler since they are young.

Oh okay, yes, definitely in agreement there. I'm sure it'll happen within the next few years.

I’m also inclined to give Ross a bit of a break. When you correctly assess the market, identify your target, put in the perfect bid, and strike out,,, what more can he do?
It doesn’t let him off the hook for the moves going forward, and he will still be measured by wins (to a degree), but his wings have definitely been clipped.

He ceases to be a property/entertainer if he doesn't perform, though. Yankees fans and the NY media aren't exactly known for their patience with underperforming players, and at an AAV of $40m, the definition of 'underperforming' is going to be extremely broad. He'll get booed the first time he has an 0 for 10 streak, and if he spends the back half of that contract playing poorly (a distinct possibility/likelihood), they will be merciless.

Re: Around the MLB
Judge seems to have a great reputation and a class act though. Will he truly ever get the ARod treatment? If and when he produces 3 or 4 more good/great seasons, he's built up enough goodwill to be more like Jeter than anyone else since. I don't think he's going to get it bad unless he's revealed to be moonlighting as a serial killer. He's the king of NY.
And I think the contract will age terribly.

I don't think they could let him go though. The mistake was low balling last summer.
