Massive choking down the stretch of this game by this team. Biggio, Jansen, and Chapman all with critical errors in the field.

Last play isn't on Jansen. That was a horrific throw for Chapman on a fairly easy play by his standards.

Bad throw by Chapman, jansen couldn't come up with it, never had it...but wouldn't have been in that situation, if he didn't make a terrible throw but Vladdy didn't give Jansen a lane to throw to. So many problems in that inning.

Jays were playing a different sport there. Just screwing up everywhere.

Yeah. Chapman rushed it horrifically because Gordon is a fast runner, but on a fairly hard-hit ball to 3rd, it doesn't matter if it's Usain Bolt, a good throw beats them. Would have taken an incredible catch by Jansen to record the out.

Great point about Vlad not giving Danny a lane to throw…

Might be a dumb question, but wouldn't Teo bunting down first be a smart play there?

Just a total meltdown defensively tbh. After more looks Chapman can't hop a throw to the plate from 3rd lol but yeah a mess of mistakes by everyone.

But let's not forget Berrios lost us this game with another absolute stinker.

Chapman has one of the best arms in the league. Make a throw on target and it's an easy out. He turfed it.

Bunting with the bases loaded with a guy who has a 181 wRC+ since the ASB is not the smart play, no.

The blame goes mostly to Berrios yet again, but that was a pretty alarming ending to that game for this team.

At least the bullpen was great (although their usage tonight actually hurts us the rest of the series, so that isn't a silver lining either).

Chapman throwing stats is trending downwards, and is one of the explanations why his overall defensive metrics is down this year. There was a good conversation on Blake and dude for BaseballSavant, that dug into why Chapman overall defensive stats "Appear to be down" this year, and he says he's making the plays, getting to balls, but he's had some baffling throws that would be sure outs.

Interesting. I'm not sure how much I trust any defensive stats over small sample sizes (especially on a team that shifts as much as the Jays do), but he certainly has made a few odd throwing errors this year. Still an upgrade over what we've had over there for a long time though.

Blake was suggesting what you were saying , is it because we are shifting a bunch, and he's covering for BO, but the guy said it doesn't explain why he was +5+6 range last year or year prior and this year in his throwing stats it's -15, which explains why he's only grading out "Defensively" a slightly above avg (On defensive metrics, when previous in his career, it's been way way higher). AGain to your point the defensive stats are not as mature as others, so to each his own. But essentially what we saw in the 10th, was 100% case in point to what the guy was talking about, play he made, just a poor throw, but this time it likely led to an error on his part. They said in other cases he made poor throws, or late throws, that isn't an error or anything, just the expected throw wasn't made (infield single). I dunno, found it really intersting... Still better than what we had their last year, but it's not godly tier D, that he was previously giving.

Absolutely. The bullpen threw 5+ scoreless innings today (basically 6 since the 10th was lost on errors).

We would have easily won this game if Berrios didn't forget how to pitch. **** this guy. He's more frustrating than Kikuchi since we knew Kikuchi would be a gamble and he's signed to a relatively short-term deal.
