Sean Nolin tonight, six shutout innings, 4 hits, 4Ks, 0BB. 85 pitches, apparently they didn't him to go further in part because of the cold weather.

Neil Wagner threw the 9th, iH, OR, and BUF won in the 11th on a Ryan Goins walk off single.

It's hard to imagine how far Ricky Romero has fallen

Should the Jays make some excuse to send D.J. Davis back to extended spring training?

FWIW, the Lansing radio guys feel like DJ is primed to come around. Don't know why when I simply look at the boxscore but, take it for what it's worth.

Got to find one positive out of this crappy night since Sanchez had a middling start: A.J. Jimenez was 3-6 with a homer and a double - and no strikeouts.

Chase De Jong has really come around after a couple tough outings to begin the year: 15 IP over four appearances, 2 runs (1 earned), 11 hits, 16 Ks and 6 walks. The concern at the moment comes from his high flyball total, including three that have departed the yard. Still, progress.

Dwight Smith hit his 3rd HR of the season today. Interestingly, all of his home runs so far have come off of lefties. Great to see since his ability to hit lefties was one thing that was holding him back as a prospect. Even before today's HR, he was posting an OPS of 1.037 VS LHP through 26 PA's (by comparison last year it was .555 in 110 PA's)

Casey Janssen pitched a rehab inning in NH, gave up 0R but 2H.

But damn, the pitching story of the night looks like Daniel Norris: 4.2, 0R, 5H, 3BB, 10K. Still needs time and work, but he's should be on someone's top 150 MLB prospects

Curious how long he remains in Dunedin if this keeps up. I'd imagine that they wanted to give him a fairly long time to cement his gains, but if he reaches 10 starts with an ERA in the 1s you probably have to test those waters.

Only downside right now is that his pitch count seems to get up there, but as they stretch him out to 100 pitches he ought to be good for 6+ if no one can touch him.

Robson is in the midst of his best game by far.

Six innings, just two hits allowed and 8 strikeouts.

After allowing a lead off triple, he retired 17 straight, until a sixth inning single with two outs.

I don't know whether Kevin Pillar has changed his stance, added muscle, or is just eating his Wheeties, but he's 3-3 including am RBI 3Band RBI, and a 16-game hit streak. He's 18 for his last 45 AB (.400), 15 for his last 30. He hasn't hit a homer yet but he's ahead of his pace last season for doubles and triples.

Like I said, wonder if he's doing something this year to warrant another look.

He's always been a good hitter. The bigger question in my mind is why he looked so terrible in his big league try out last year. I was expecting a lot more.

Oh well, he'll probably get another shot at some point.

“We could have gone forever. (Raptors management) kept knocking on the door and I was like, ‘A couple more minutes.’ Because we were really into it."

Norris is on Sickels at 98. Keeps this up and he'll be top 50.

Might just be the best game of his career, the 8 K's are a career high and the six innings tie his career high. Good to see him demonstrating control again the past couple of games.

DJ Davis is really going through a terrible stretch right now.

He had another four strikeouts in five at bats tonight.

His strikeout rate over his past ten games is nearly 50%.

When he's bad, he's almost unthinkably bad. Davis is still plenty young, but (as people have probably noticed) I really don't like low-power players with high strikeout rates, and Davis has put up frightening strikeout totals in his time to date. Rapidly losing hope; even though he isn't yet 20, he just has so much ground to cover to even reach tolerable levels.

Dwight Smith homered for a fourth time. This seems kinda real. There aren't any "yeah, but..." downers in his peripherals at all right now; heck, he's going through a rough stretch with BABIP, but he has an OPS of .825 in his past ten thanks to 6 XBHs in that span.

That was Dwight Smith Jr's 1st HR off a righty. The strides he's made (SSS aside) against LHP has been encouraging.

I'm not sure i'd classify Davis as low-power, but I agree with the sentiment, and the strikeout rate is absolutely frightening, regardless of age or power profile.

For **** and giggles, Joey Gallo, with his huge swing and miss ability and being four months younger for the level, had a 37% K rate last season. That profile did produce 38 homers though and a .365 ISO.

Davis currently is at 38.7%.

So yeah, there's no pretty way to spin that at the moment.

Combine the strikeout rate with the 40% stolen base success rate, and some not so favourable reports on his defense, it's pretty clear he's all athlete at the moment with very little baseball instincts.

So if he were to start putting it together he's still got tremendous upside; but yeah, the clock is ticking pretty fast at this point.

It's a bit odd that it hasn't seemed to translate against right handed pitching yet, with his ISO under .100.

If it is legit though, it should be fun once he gets to NH, given how friendly that park normally is to left handed hitters.
