Way better than the Rangers announcers earlier. I couldn’t believe the homerism.

These guys at least acknowledge what is a strike.

Edit: and this Homeplate umpire has been excellent.

Rangers announcers are brutal, yeah.

Dodgers clinch the division, so I'm guessing they'll put out a ghost lineup tomorrow. We'll still take it though.

Yeah. Also, my first thought. Who knows. Baseball.

Maybe they have a Davis Schneider on the bench somewhere…

Of course. The A's might be trash, but the Mariners are trying their hardest to miss the playoffs right now, so I'm hopeful the A's take at least 1/3, if not win the series.

Despite the best efforts of the Homeplate umpire in Texas, the Red Sox have just taken the lead.

Curt Schilling Reveals Former Teammate Tim Wakefield's Cancer Diagnosis Against His Wishes | Defector

Here's a deeply bleak sentence: This week on his Outkick podcast, Curt Schilling insensitively broke the news that both former teammate Tim Wakefield and his wife have cancer, and now many people are mad at him.

Halfway through Tuesday's episode of Schilling's baseball show, following a discussion of the AL East, the former pitcher switched topics and shared his best wishes for his old Red Sox teammate. Schilling noted that while "this is not a message that Tim has asked anyone to share," he said he felt he needed to disclose it anyway because "as a Christian and as a man of faith, I have seen prayer work."

Schilling said that he had a phone call with Doug Mirabelli, who during his Red Sox career worked as the personal catcher for Wakefield, and learned that Tim Wakefield was "diagnosed with a very serious, very aggressive form of brain cancer," while also mentioning that Stacy Wakefield was "very sick with pancreatic cancer."

"And if they didn't want this to be public, I sincerely apologize, but I do believe that a gigantic, worldwide Red Sox Nation group hug and prayers is warranted for this one," Schilling said, mentioning that he stays in touch with Wakefield occasionally.
But Tim and Stacy did not want their health issues to be revealed, and if they did, it likely would've been delivered through a different messenger than a conspiracy enthusiast, transphobe, and collector of certain memorabilia from 1930s Germany.

It's crazy that both SD and CHC might miss the playoffs (well might for CHC, SD is out), with both teams having a +100 run differential. And they'd be losing out to little league teams like the DBacks and Marlins.

RIP Tim Wakefield.

**** cancer.
We watched the tragedy unfold. We did as we were told, we bought and sold. It was the greatest show on Earth...but then it was over.

Everyone who knew Wakefield likely knew he had brain cancer, you can't hide that. That video is from just 7 days ago, not like several months ago or something. Definitely poor form by Schilling but people make mistakes. Family just doesn't want undue attention in his waning moments which is understandable.

That Bauer video is disturbing. Many lawsuits want the discovery power for this very reason. A lesson: don't prejudge until ALL the facts come out.
Organization can be defined as an organized body of people with a particular purpose. Not random.

The legend - Angel Hernandez was quickly back to midseason form after returning from his back injury.

Conclusion: the umpire union is the strongest union in the world.
9. Similarly, IF THOU HAST SPENT the entire offseason predicting that thy team will stink, thou shalt not gloat, nor even be happy, shouldst thou turn out to be correct. Realistic analysis is fine, but be a fan first, a smug smarty-pants second.

Looks like Astros are going to the WS again. They're an enviable organization. Let's hire their former GM while we have the chance.

Also, obligatory eat **** Baltimore.

Twins 1 pitch thrown = 1 earned run given up, tying the Blue Jays total in 2 games

2023 Blue Jays offense was so disgraceful man

This Braves-Phillies umpire is awful.

The Phillies also had a Blue Jays moment here, pulling Suarez in the 4th. But unlike the Twins, the Braves choked away the opportunity.

Seeing the Braves and Dodgers flame out every year, I wonder if a team is better off eking into the playoffs than hitting autopilot like 2 weeks before the playoffs start.
