Re: 2014 Minor Leagues/Prospect Discussion Thread
Anyone know the status of some of the injured Lansing starters? It sounded like Robson might be TJ'ed, but I never saw a follow up. Neither Labourt nor Cardona have pitched in May, but I can't seem to find any kind of an update for either. And Osuna. There was that pic of him pitching again, a timetable on his return to play would be fantastic.

Deck McGuire and AJ Jimenez officially announced as promoted to Buffalo. Deck starts tonight.
Guess that opens up a spot for a catcher and pitcher at NH. Norris, by the way, starts tomorrow.

No updates. Just this
Replying to a text on Sunday, Robson, 20, said that he would be able to answer questions later in the week . Read into that what you will.

Pretty sure Liz took McGuire's spot already.

Labourt is back in extended ST.... the reports are very positive ( take of that what you will, since reports from extended generally seem to be positive ) and the expectation right now is that he ends up back in Lansing at some point in the not too distant future.
Cardona was confirmed for TJ as far as I remember.
Osuna apparently has not thrown in extended for the past two weeks. No official word, but if that's true, then it's probably a set back of some sorts.

Thank you good sir. May I ask from whence you gleaned this info? Just curious if this is from obvious paysites (BA, BP types) or something more like close readings of the blogs and comments sections. Or maybe you're AA?

The Cardona stuff was from twitter a couple of days after he had been pulled from a game.
The Osuna/Labourt stuff I got from this excellent blog about the Vancouver Canadians.

If you follow the Jays from Away guys on twitter/their site + the above blog, you should be well taken care of for little bits of information related to the farm that don't necessarily get out via BP or BA.

Thank you kindly. Didn't know either of those sources.

Yeah they're both good pieces of info. I'm pretty sure the guys who run the Jays from Away blog get down to Dunedin in the Spring and go to Lansing/Buffalo during the season, so I think they've made some contacts at the various levels.
Gerry from Battersbox.ca usually gets solid reports from extended as well.

Brutal. It's an epidemic. Baseball seriously needs to look into how to prevent this from happening so often, whether it's something like the weighted ball program, better nutrition, whatever...
Nick Nurse recounting his first meeting with Kawhi:
“We could have gone forever. (Raptors management) kept knocking on the door and I was like, ‘A couple more minutes.’ Because we were really into it."

The problem may be much deeper rooted, highly possible these kids are doing the damage before they even get drafted. Pitching all year round, trying to hit 95 on the gun in their teens. There has to be a reason on why this has become incrementally bad over the years, definitely not a coincidence.

Re: 2014 Minor Leagues/Prospect Discussion Thread
We covered some stuff in one of my classes (taught by an orthopedic surgeon) this year about damage kids can do to their bones during development. Specifically, one problem "Little League Elbow of Medial Epicondyle," can happen to a kids developing elbow, where stress and strain on the elbow can cause damage to the growing bone around where the ligaments/tendons attach, which is why you are not supposed to overdo it, and especially you are not supposed to throw "Junk" at a young age.
I would not be surprised if some kids are throwing too much, and maybe throwing pitches that are putting strain on their developing arms at young ages, leading to high probability of damage down the line (Minor leagues etc).
Like some people have said, this could be a problem rooted not in how training is done in the Minors/Majors, but how it is done as children.

There's a growing recognition of the need to limit kids to the 'safe' (read: fastball/changeup) stuff until at least 14 or 15, and to keep pitch counts down; it's part of the reason this is somewhat confounding, because the rate of injuries seems to be increasing even as more steps are taken to protect arms.
My pet theory (totally and utterly unsupported) is that it might owe to the prevalence of lower arm angles as compared to years past. So many pitchers now throw from three-quarters or close to it to get lateral movement and dip on their fastball, and I wonder whether it's more prone to causing stress on the joint if the mechanics aren't utterly flawless.
On Norris, I said some time ago that you start considering promotion when he reaches 10 starts. He's there now, with an ERA of 0.72 and a K:BB over 4. Methinks it's time.

**** your asterisk.

DJ Davis now has 74 strike outs in 193 at bats.

I'm thinking that was now said in the context of the thoughts of an opposing pitcher.

Albert Tirado's penchant for giving up loads of baserunners and escaping without much damage caught up with him today. He only went 2/3 of an inning and gave up 7 runs.
Shane Dawson had a pretty poor outing today after stringing together a number of good outings. 10 hits over 4 innings.
