Pity the poor Angels fans. On Monday, they cleared a roster spot and they started to believe. Earlier today, they gave away a pretty good prospect (their 1st rounder in 2019) in order to ditch the final year of Zack Cosart's contract, and it seemed like there was only one logical conclusion.

...and nope.

Any wagers on how long it takes for Happ to get traded to the Jays for a bag of balls?

Rumor has it they are after David Price. So that sucks

Plus the trade of Cozart’s 13M is a good bench mark if the Yanks want us to take on Happs 17M with the likely scenario of him reaching his 2021 vesting option. Better be getting a great prospect back.

Nah happ’s final stat line wasn’t too bad. Someone is going to get him for cents on the dollar, Maybe the Yankees through in some cash, but I doubt it’s more than that.

From a jays perspective; If the yanks throw in 5+ million and it only costs a fringe prospect, disappointing as it would be, he’s not a terrible fallback option for one year.

Multiple teams offer him 10M but the A's dont pick up his 7.5M. You have to think that some team would give something (a low ceiling prospects) to the A's for Treinen at 7.5M vs offering 10M and not getting him.

The Angels have reached a seven-year, $245MM agreement with free-agent third baseman Anthony Rendon, Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports.

Also, Porcello has a 3 year deal offer but would prefer one, same source.

Who would you rather have for 7/245, Strasburg or Rendon?

Rendon, I think. More consistently elite, and younger. Rendon has downside risk later in the deal, Strasburg has downside risk throughout.

Tidbit from Rosenthal:

• The Blue Jays are drawing heavy interest in their young catchers –Danny Jansen and Reese McGuire, both 24 – raising the possibility they could trade one for a starting pitcher with comparable ability and service time.
Jansen, the more popular trade target, is under control for five more seasons, McGuire for six. The Jays added a starter on Wednesday by reaching agreement with free-agent right-hander Tanner Roark on a two-year, $24 million contract.

What was the rush to make this deal? Especially if this was the best deal available?

That's a comical suggestion on the part of MLB. The reason the MiLB system exists in its current form is that it's cheaper. The reason MLB is proposing to kill teams is because it's cheaper. So their threat is that, if they can't do things cheaper, they'll spend a lot more money?
