Assuming the lineup is BO/Vlad/Santander? Like the lineup gets awfully "Quiet" if we are putting springer/Gimenez /Varsho as our #4 hitter.
Who is the 4th best hitter on the Yankees?
Judge... then its guys like Chisholm, Bellinger, and Goldschmidt, in the 2,3,4 slots who all have some question marks as top hitters.
There is a lot of lineups that are not that deep out after the top 3 -- if you can get around 100 OPS out of your 4th through 7 hitters you might not be that far behind.
I think we are going to need two of Varsho, Gimenez and Kirk to get closer to the levels they have achieved before (2022) and be 100-110 type guys. Can our hitting coaches help players do that -- not sure.

Re: Official Blue Jays 2025 Spring Training Thread
I had the game on the background, but was not following or listening closely. I saw that Gausman left the game at one point (and heard Schulman say he can come back later), and he then re-entered later.
Can somebody explain the circumstances why\ Gausman left the game in the first place, and how he was able to comeback into the game a bit later.... I assume it is some spring rule.

It's a spring training thing teams can do, and use regularly.

I just did some googling and came across the reason for it. It makes sense.... keeps workload as expected for starters (avoids long innings).
Haven't watched many spring games very closely.

Update : Roden singles in the first run of today's game. He is this spring's Ernie Clement story and the only way they send him to Buffalo is because they are overly concerned with how it might look to send out someone else. It's hard to see how more time in Buffalo would help Roden.
I’d be shocked at this point if Roden isn’t on the opening day roster, in fact I think there’s a decent chance he is a starter over Loperfido.
Don’t know about the CF thing, Straw can do the job for 1-2 weeks, no need to put added pressure on Roden
I don't think the plan would be to start Rodon, but there are good chances if you are losing that Straw will be Pinch Hit for.
Good idea to get Rodon some innings now, as there will probably be some limited situations in April that he will be moved to CF during the game.

Re: Official Blue Jays 2025 Spring Training Thread
Roden is my opening day Lfer and new lead off man.
Roden-LF
Gimenez-2B
Bo-SS
Vlad-1B
Santander-DH
Barger/Springer-RF
Clement-3B
Kirk/Bethancourt-C
Straw-CF
With Schneider and Wagner rounding out my position players until Varsho is ready to play CF. I say let the young legs play the corner outfield spots the majority of the time unless they start to stumble in the box.

Because he’s been a bad hitter for over a year?

Funny thing is, he hit .415 in the spring last year. Dude is completely washed now.

He had one good month last year. Remove his July numbers and he’s hitting around .200
His AB’s are going to be painful to watch

So much for not wanting it to be a distraction, there's a new interview about it every other day.. They need to either sign him or trade him asap, can't have the season being the Vladdy free agency world tour, it's a distraction for both him and the team.

Shapiro just said that he believes the Jays are going to sign/extend Vlad and they are getting closer. Made a comment that both sides are aligned, whatever that means.

Re: Official Blue Jays 2025 Spring Training Thread
"When it comes to Vlad's contractual situation, I guess my overarching feeling is one of optimism. I think we're going to sign him. I think we're going to extend him. The reason I feel that way is because we have such a clear alignment on the desired outcome. Vlad wants to play his whole career as a Toronto Blue Jay. We want him to end his career in a Blue Jays uniform to be a true legacy player for the Toronto Blue Jays. That's a pretty good place to start. The challenge has been, that area we've talked about before, finding the sweet spot of sharing risk. What defines that sweet spot? Different contracts, different moments in time that make it more of a challenge or less of a challenge, ultimately, sometimes free agency provides the clearest answer to that. Could be before free agency, could be during free agency. But 11m optimistic we will sign him. That's how I feel."
"Let me be clear. There's only been one player in my time in Major League Baseball who had a marketing case that significantly and meaningfully offset the value of his contract. One player. Only one. In every other case, I would say the only other thing that actually sells tickets in the hundreds of thousands is winning. There are players who have magnetic personalities, like Vlad, who amplify winning and can really help, but fans don't come to see great players on losing teams. We need to win to have fans come in the largest numbers possible. Vlad is a part of helping us win and he's a player that has a chance to be a very special player for a generation of Blue Jays fans."
"There just aren't that many players any more who are signed, developed, born in the country [of Canada] and play their whole career in one place, in one uniform. I call those guys legacy players. My origins in the game are dotted with those players, from Brooks Robinson to Cal Ripken Jr. to Kirby Puckett. Those are players that, for me, defined what it meant to be a baseball fan. That's the fabric of why I'm in the game today. This is a guy who has the chance to do that here."
- Mark Shapiro, President and CEO of the Toronto Blue Jays
