Shapiro also talked up Roden again, which makes me wonder if there is a plan afoot to prepare the fan base for a bigger move. - say, finding a home for Springer, even if that won't save much cash.

Springer is finished. Send him back to Houston for a bag of baseballs!

This will be remembered as one of the worst contracts ever given to any Blue Jay in history.

I know spring doesnt mean anything but good to see we are hitting.

I know we lost some hitters but I firmly believe donny baseball completely fked us over the last few seasons with his safe approach

Makes sense with Varsho. Him being able to play the field is the majority of his value, no sense in bringing him up here to be DH for a month.

I cant believe they took Hienemen over Bethancourt as the backup catcher. We will probably get Wagner at 3B and Santander in LF too. Throw Springer back in the leadoff spot too while your at it Schneider…..god **** it!!! FFS!!!!

I don’t care what they say about Wagner, or the projections. He is the utility infielder if he makes the roster. I also dont care id Springer makes more than the rest of the outfielders on this team combined, he starts the year as my 4th OF, playing some RF and maybe pinch hitting against some LHP.
The 9 bats I want in the lineup and playing defense the majority of the time until Varsho returns is:

Roden- LF
Straw-CF
Barger-RF
Clement-3B
Bo-SS
Gimenez-2B
Vlad-1B
Santander-DH

I would give Varsho 20-25 games worth of time in the minors (or more if he isn’t ready by then). And I would treat that as an audition for all 3 outfielders. Then when Varsho comes back, the top 2 performers on offense stay as the starting corners outfielders until/unless they start to look like they are being exposed somehow at the plate.

Very good (possibly great) deal! You’ve secured your catcher, who’s a plus defender, durable, and probably your 4th best hitter as $12m/year (maybe lower depending on signing bonus/deferrals). And you’ve done it when his value isn’t at a high.

Both Kirk and Varsho are super important to this team, I think it’s critical they’re both locked up before they have real breakout years.
