I'm not sure what exactly some of you are expecting to get out of this deadline. We don't have any premium assets that are pending FA's. Those that had the most value 30-60 days ago (Jansen, KIkuchi, Garcia, Richards) have regressed significantly or been injured.

The returns have seemed fairly decent to date - but none of these moves will likely be franchise altering because of the players that are being moved.

The Garcia trade has been viewed as very solid.
Janssen got fringe prospects - not sure what else you are expecting.

Atkins sucks "big picture" and has moves have greatly helped putting us into this position at July 2024. It would have been nice if he had been gone. But its not really a risk having him do these pending FA type deals when you are not moving players that have likely franchise altering value in return. My biggest concern is that he is still here in January 2025.

Moreno is the same guy I wanted the Jays to deal when the rumoured Gurriel, Moreno, Martinez/Ricky Tiedemann package was discussed for a legit All-star hitting Outfielder in Bryan Reynolds in November/December 2022. I was not saying do not trade Moreno under any circumstance.

When that did not transpire and the Pirates owner wanted to keep Reynolds, the Jays foolishly focused on getting an one-dimensional Mendoza level hitter in Varsho instead for both Gurriel and Moreno. Unfortunately, Tiedemann needs Tommy John and he is going to be gone until 2026. Now this team is left with a fat 5 foot 7.5 inch, 260-270 pound catcher who has been terrible since the second half of 2022; and who needs to be load managed given his obese frame.

It's just salt in the wound at this point to have Atkins making these deals when he should have been run out of town last year.

Let's see if he has the guts to turn Berrios and Bassit. There's no point in pretending that this team has a legit chance in 2025.

At first I thought you were trolling but then I realized you really think this is true lol. Genuinely curious why you think he’s better than Moreno?

That’s great, hopefully it means we can trade him for great prospects. Trade him while he’s still got value before he falls off a cliff like Springer

He’s a better career offensive and defensive player than the fraud, that’s easy. That’s part of what makes the crying about the guy this long on so pathetic.

I'm watching whether the Jays trade Chad Green and/or IKF. Both are under control for next season, but IKF in particular is less important to keep because of the emergence of Horwitz at 2B, Clement as a good utility bat and Leo Jimenez as a reliable glove with offensive upside. All of this happened after IKF was signed last winter, and we ought to be selling high on him. The emergence of this trio and the infield prospect depth being added with these deadline deals also suggests the Jays can/will deal Bo Bichette this winter. Trading IKF, Green and Bo would free up almost $30 million to go after a big free agent bat.

A serious team would trade them both, but you know what this team is.

We have a dedicated thread to discuss the Varsho-Moreno trade.

Varsho/Moreno Discussion Thread

If you want to open a different thread directly comparing Moreno and Kirk, by all means go for it.

But please do not derail this trade deadline thread, and let's keep discussion in this thread about current or future trades only.

Have gotten a couple of reported posts in this thread, and I'm hoping we can follow the guidelines. Thanks.

Pearson is definitely one of those guys who's gonna put it together for a couple years, and we'll be going what if. But I don't think it was going to happen here. Sometimes a change of scenery is really important.

Yeah he wasn't going to do it here, whether it's the coaches or whatever. It's just too bad we didn't sell him earlier, a lot of players we moved on their downside or injuries (see Donaldson).

Prob will do the same next year when they realize gausman / bassist is getting older.

Whose available that would help? I haven't looked at free agents?

Hopefully the person that's trading bo isn't the atkins/sharpio kabal.

He has the stuff but has no clue how to pitch and I doubt he ever will.

Only Clase stands out as someone with starting lineup potential. Other guys are too raw or have disappointed in minors to this point.

I mean everyone we traded has been a disappoint this year minus Gracia or a free agent...we aren't selling high cause well they haven't preformed so we aren't about to get ready to step into big league prospects.

the moves so far are nothing. last year garcia had era of 4.1 4 bl saves and 4 losses, this year he's been better but definitely not a game changer. he's also a fa and unlikely to be worth his next contract to a team trying to figure themselves out. jansen has a .420 ops in the last 2 months and hasn't hit over 0.220 in more than 2 years. wouldn't be re signed anyways.
gm needs to streamline the roster with priority on keeping gausman, bassitt, green, horwitz, vlad, varsho, and perhaps springer.

FWIW, Matheson has four of the prospects slotting into our system's top-30. Clase is top at #7, but Riviera (30), Coffey (27), and Paulino (19) are also now amongst our top prospects.
