Apparently.

I’m the guy that always wants to let the guy who starts the inning finish. I hate the quick trigger. But even I was calling for Yimi’s departure. It was plain.

It was never gonna happen. Blaming the manager for not pulling one of the best RPs in baseball this year for a guy who has been bad isn't the way here.

I stepped away from the game with the Jays up by 2 after 8 innings. LOL

Feel bad for Jays fans. They deserve better than Shatkins. Full house this afternoon.

They have 3 relievers in the bullpen that they absolutely do not want to use in a close game; Rodriguez, Tate, and Walker. However with 2 relievers down (Hoffman, Little), and one having pitched 2 of the last 3 days (Garcia), they needed to trust one of those 3 to get 3 outs in the 7th. It's been 3 years and John Schneider still does not know how to use a bullpen.

I personally would have let Gausman start the 7th. It was pretty clear they didn't have much in the pen today and asking those guys to get 3 innings proved to be too much.

It's not really a side. I just think it's pretty obvious that no manager is gonna pull Garcia in that spot for a guy who has struggled all year (despite there being a logic to it), so it's a little silly to blame him for it.

Sorry thats complete BS.

We saw 5 batters of Garcia there. We saw the results. We know Garcia. We’ve seen him here for years. He’s not the golden goose.

You might believe he’s not going to ever allow a run. The rest of us probably thought it was going to happen eventually… You and John Schneider had blinders on.

What's complete BS is trying to blame a manager after the fact for not pulling a reliever who hadn't given up any runs all year and hadn't given up hard contact in the inning for a bad RP that nobody trusts. Again, it was obvious he wasn't getting pulled there.

I didn’t say I thought Schneider would pull him. I knew Schneider and Randle and Joe freaking Siddle would leave him in and we would lose.

After all, it’s not a serious organization.

Brutal loss. The issue isn't Yimi or Schneider, it's our trash offence once again refusing to come through with RISP. We were threatening all game and could've easily scored 5 plus runs with all the chances we had. If you play every game so close, chances are the pitching will falter at some point.

Well, unless Schneider was focussed on protecting a 2-run deficit, he shouldn’t have Rodriguez warming up at all then.

I'd imagine he was warming him for exactly the spot he brought him in for (after Yimi ran out of pitches/blew the game). We haven't been using him in high leverage at all, nor has he earned any trust in a high leverage spot.

Really??because I would imagine Schneider has no idea what he’s doing from pitch to pitch.

Edit: and that he is managing for appearances, and he’s not prepared to look stupid,,, whether that would be to “take out a pitcher that hasn’t allowed 1 run all year”, or “not having a reliever going in the bullpen”.

Agreed. The Jays continue to play with absolutely zero margin for error. It's not going to work every time, and probably not even most of the time. If John f'n Schneider has to manage a perfect game every game in order to win, then this team is in major trouble.

Given that he starting warming him when Yimi got to 20 pitches, I don't think there's much question about what the reasoning was.

Again, no manager is taking out a guy who hadn't given up a run all year/no hard contact in that inning for a guy with a 6 ERA. He's taking his chances with Yimi..

Ever heard of a mound visit?

Sounds like you’re addicted to losing.

Expect better, Randle! Could turn your whole life around! ;-)

Expecting better would be me wanting the FO to assemble an offense capable of scoring more than 3 runs against a struggling SP (which was the biggest reason for that loss, I think they left like a dozen runners on). It's not complaining about a manager doing the same thing literally any other manager would do in the same spot (i.e. riding with the guy who has dominated all season in a big spot over the guy with a 6 ERA).

No reliever is perfect, and Garcia had been lights out all year. The trash offence is more to blame. MVP Varsho was 0 for 4 and looked brutal at the plate. Same with Gimenez and the 500 million dollar man. This offense is a disgrace to watch.

Return to Toronto Blue Jays
