Re: 2021-22 Offseason Thread
Sooo,,, banning the shift, larger bases, pitch clock,,,,,, any opinions?
I'm not really for any of these,, but would probably choose banning the shift (which is probably the least popular of the 3 on this board).

All dumb. I don’t think the owners actually like baseball.
9. Similarly, IF THOU HAST SPENT the entire offseason predicting that thy team will stink, thou shalt not gloat, nor even be happy, shouldst thou turn out to be correct. Realistic analysis is fine, but be a fan first, a smug smarty-pants second.

Re: 2021-22 Offseason Thread
I'm still really not in favour of rewarding dead-pull power hitters who screw up and accidentally top the ball. Not only is it providing the wrong incentives, but our team is a perfect example of the way many young hitters have already begun to adjust for all-fields power...if you look at our players from last year, there's a marked difference in batted ball directionality between the older dudes of the young kids:

So you're punishing the players that adapted to benefit the ones who didn't, which sucks.

I get that. Totally fair. Which is why I remain just mildly supportive.
I think you can argue right now that pitchers are ahead of hitters in the MLB. I guess it’s going to have to fall on the pitchers to cater their approach to each batter. Low and away, low and away… They lose the cheat code.
Again, I am very open minded on this one.

Re: 2021-22 Offseason Thread
My issue is that this is likely to lead to more swing-for-the-fences approaches, because now you're being penalized for it a bit less as some of those pull-side flails will result in base hits.

**** your asterisk.

Re: 2021-22 Offseason Thread
generally speaking, is it the same people who don't align with certain rule changes for the "purity" of the sport who are for banning the shift?
i think i hate this change the most to be honest. you should be free to place your fielders anywhere you damn well please. no more 5 man infields or 4 man outfields? we gonna start drawing zones on the diamond? would rather lower the mound than place restrictions on defensive alignment if increasing offense is the goal. having shitty lumbering 1B/DH types hit shallow singles is not the answer.

Bautista outplays his contract by more than $70 million over the next four seasons (2013-2016).

Re: 2021-22 Offseason Thread
I just want Major League Baseball. I don''t care one tiny whit if the bases are a bit larger, or if there is an attempt to impose a pitch clock or ban the shift. I'll let you guys argue over that. Just play ball.
It does sound more and more like there is a deal. Ought to know this afternoon
Update, seems like players have ratified the offer. News shortly. Apparently, free agency might re-start TONIGHT.

Ratified, by a 26-12 vote of player reps. Camps open to 40-man roster players tomorrow

Is there anything about how long this agreement is good for?
