Nothing to do with our off-season, but this is one of the craziest tweets. To not have a 30 run home run hitter in over 20 years in this era of long balls … and also winning three World Series in five years in this stretch.

I believe the only player across major league baseball, who has signed as a free agent with another team on an actual major league contract is Leody Tavares. Will someone please start doing **** something?.

It won't, what will is if we are willing to spend - Springer came here because we offered him the most dollars and years, same with Ryu and countless others.
If we are willing to be the highest bidder, we'll get that player, whether we made the world series or had we finished outside the playoffs.
I guess someone has an EXTREMELY short memory…lol It was just last off season that they offered the most money to players and couldnt get them to sign on the dotted line.
There are players out there that still care about winning. So if a perennial playoff team comes calling with a competitive offer, even if you offer more, if you are a last place team they still arent going to sign with you. To be in the mix for most amount of top tier free agents, you need to offer top tier money AND already have enough talent to be considered a contender.
Players arent stupid, they watched Trout and Ohtani miss the playoffs year after year in Anaheim. So they know even 2 HOF players cant get the job done on their own.
Not only did the blue Jays prove themselves to be true contenders, but also to be a team that could actually have s chance next October to beat the Dodgers if they have a good off season.
Regarding Sandlin… who cares. They learned last year that if you want to win, there is no room for mediocre in your bullpen. Hopefully all these rumors lead to some major additions to rhe back end before LA scoops em all up to upgrade their line weakness…
So when Springer signed, it was all those playoff appearance they had? Or Guasman?
We wouldn't have signed Sasaki or Othani, had we had back to back World series appearance...
And you think the Jays as is, or even if they add Kyle tucker or someone is going to be back in October. Do you realize how many things all broke our way this past year - Ask Texas after their world series win, how hard it is to make it back to October, hell Dodgers this year almost didn't even make it and many had Philly as the National league favourites going into playoffs. Baseball is way more random, and that's why it's so hard to repeat which is why it made Jays back to back so special in 92-93. Or when Yankees did in in the early 2000s.
For us to be back in October, we would have to get similar everyone loves the vibes, and punches above their weight to get back, is it possible, sure, but I wouldn't bank on it.
Im sorry, did we sign Springer and Gausman last year while we were a last place team?
Also, I didnt say you need to be a contender to sign any top free agent, I said you need to be a contender ( and offer top tier money obviously) to be in the mix for every top tier FA. There is a big difference.
I am not sure what isnt repeatable either… They could have full seasons from Bieber and Yesavage to go with Gausman at the top of the rotation, a reinforced/upgraded back end of the bullpen, and possibly an even better defense with full seasons from Gimenez, Barger and Varsho. The only thing highly unlikely is Springer, but they already have Santander and nowhere to play him. So if Springer struggles or gets hurt, they already have the perfect replacement.
Im not saying its a lock, but the offseason is all about how things look on paper. And if I am a free agent this winter, there is absolutely no reason not to want to sign in Toronto.
The only thing hurting them is its an extra flight compared to LA for the Japanese FAs…. But have you seen the state of California lately? Im
Not sure it is the attraction it once was. Between the fires and the gangs, I am not sure if you could pay me to live there right now.

The fires and the gangs? The fires are an issue that has been closely monitored and the gangs do not affect baseball players players as they don't go in poor neighborhoods like in any player in any city. That's one weird comment...

Yeah, that had nothing to do with baseball, just the state of that part of the country. Every time I see news of any kind, it’s something else. La la land and southern cali used to be viewed as a magical place of beautiful weather and opportunity, but not so sure it is looked at in that light anymore. So if you can compete with the Dodgers, and offer similar money, you should have chance at anyone.

Re: 2025 Blue Jays Offseason Thread
California’s only issue is the cost of housing, because so many people want to live there and they don’t build enough housing. Although some cities are changing that. Crime is a non issue compared to even 20 years ago. Gangs? It isn’t 1992 any more.
9. Similarly, IF THOU HAST SPENT the entire offseason predicting that thy team will stink, thou shalt not gloat, nor even be happy, shouldst thou turn out to be correct. Realistic analysis is fine, but be a fan first, a smug smarty-pants second.

Nick Sandlin outrighted, to clear up a 40-man roster spot. He cleared waivers
S
S
andlin would've gotten a couple million dollars in arbitration, most likely.
He cleared waivers, though, suggesting no team wanted to pay him that amount.
Sandlin will likely have to settle for a prove-it contract in free agency. It'd make sense to see him get a minor-league contract with an invite to spring training.
The unique pitching motion for Sandlin makes him a bit different than most relievers. If a team wants a guy who presents a different look than anyone in their bullpen, Sandlin is that guy.
Toronto could even choose to bring him back for cheaper, although it's not clear if that's in play.

This is not true. I just recently visited LA for the first time a few weeks ago, and it was incredible!
Sunshine, beaches, beautiful people everywhere, great food, incredible vibes, and so much to do all around
There is definitely an appeal there that isn’t matched anywhere outside of California

When I last went there (years ago), I found the water usage regulations a bit of a shock considering how liberally we use water here in Ontario. Maybe it was a temporary thing because they were in drought but I don't remember anything like it anywhere else.

Finally something has happened.
Josh Naylor staying in Seattle for 5 years. Amounts not yet disclosed. Have to think its going to come close to or go voer $100.
Good for Josh to get a nice contract. Wasn't really a fit here with Vlad, Springer, Santander.

Will be interesting to see final numbers and how it compares to Santander contract
I think at 5/90-100, id rather have Santander

Santander’s contract had lots of deferrals .. the fair value of it when signed was about 5/62. I’d imagine Naylor was more.

I don't think the Jays tried particularly hard (if at all) to get Naylor. 1B is locked up. Springer/Santander are around next year.
The resources for hitters are likely targeted towards Bo and a legit outfielder. Or pitching.
There just was just better ways for the Jays to spend their money this offseason.

Re: 2025 Blue Jays Offseason Thread
Where do you put Naylor at for the next 5x years with commitments in place for Vlad and Santander and Springer still under contract as well?
This would have been a very foolish move. Aside from him being from Mississauga and being a left bat there is literally no fit here.
