SRF tonight in Buffalo: 7.1 IP 4H 1ER 2BB 7K

More of that, please.
Nick Nurse recounting his first meeting with Kawhi:
“We could have gone forever. (Raptors management) kept knocking on the door and I was like, ‘A couple more minutes.’ Because we were really into it."

That's how second nice one in a row, and if he strings a few more of those together, we ought to see him in Toronto after the trade deadline.

I'm not convinced that SRF is a starting prospect, but I'm less unconvinced than I was, so that's nice.

The thing with recent starts by SRF and Zeuch is that they pushed into the 8th inning, an almost unheard of phenomenon in Toronto pitcher land. They are making economical enough starts. Even Jay Happ is maxxing out his pitch count by the sixth inning these days, so it would be nice if someone came up from the minors and maybe could make it through the seventh some day. I wouldn't mind some seeing some new faces who are only transitional, like maybe SRF is best suited for the pen, but I'd love to see him get a chance to start, because the sight of Biagini and Garcia croaking early is, to say the least, discouraging for me because they are not any part of the future rotation. Let SRF, Zeuch and maybe even Harris carry the bottom end of the rotation - or even the top if the Jays deal Stroman as many are coming to expect - while Pearson, Pardhino and others develop. Same for the outfield - Roemon Fields is upping his average nicely and he's not part of a future outfield, but until that takes shape, I'd love to have that speed to cheer on. Last night he walks, the pitcher tries to pick him off and misses because he's a big base stealing threat, so he gets to second anyway, then gets to third tagging on a fly ball, and scores on a sac fly. SPEED. It's coming back into the game with the high degree of athleticism many young players bring. Trade Pillar, Granderson, Pearce etc, and let Fields and Alford at least ENTERTAIN US. I still watch 90% of the games, and I still want them to win, so at least ENTERTAIN us.

Vision 2020 with an endorsement.

https://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/the-blue-jays-should-plan-for-2020/

And in a landscape littered with non-contending clubs, the Blue Jays might want to get out ahead of the market and sell what they have.

There should be a strong market for J.A. Happ, a free agent after the season. There is probably little market for Josh Donaldson at this precise moment because of his health, but the Blue Jays ought at least to explore what demand exists. Marcus Stroman is getting close to returning and is under club control for just two more seasons. While he could be built around and extended, conceivably, if Stroman can prove he’s healthy prior to the deadline, the Blue Jays ought to at least explore to see if someone will pay a hefty return. Kevin Pillar is under club control for two more years and could upgrade many center fields. Justin Smoak has a team option for next season. Russell Martin has an awful BABIP, but he can still frame and has shown he has positional versatility — he could have some value if the Blue Jays eat his contract. Relievers are at a premium as we witnessed last deadline and in the offseason, so most of the Blue Jays’ relief corps ought to be on the block.

The Blue Jays’ future resides at Double-A, and it’s not that far away. And perhaps rather than looking at 2018 as a failed shot at contention, it can now be looked upon as an opportunity to add to the next core. By selling short-term control assets now, the Blue Jays can shorten their downturn. Now, this might be easier said than done in a landscape of sellers, but there will be buyers. Considering that the first sellers to the market might have an advantage, now is the time to sell in Toronto.

I guess Rowdy Tellez got the message - 2-4 with a double and homer.

Bichette is now hitting .284/.354/.444, and his K rate has dropped to 16.7%. This has been your twice-weekly Bo Is Fine update.

And he’s been really good since that slump: 24 games .360/.416/.596. It was a brutal slump: 18 games where he went .162/.250/.257. But outside of that, his numbers are pretty damn good.

On the other side: Cavan Biggio is having a spot of bother. Hit a home run today, but his K rate has gotten a bit unwieldy.

Another decent start by Jon Harris, 6IP, 5H, 0BB, 1R, 1ER, 3K.

So that's one run in his last 12 innings. Progress.

Groshans struck out in his first AB. Bust. He's also playing SS.

Addison Barger (3B), Leonardo Jimenez (DH) are also in the lineup, with Alejandro Melean starting.

Gabriel Moreno, a 2016 IFA signing, is having one hell of a debut in the GCL: 3 for 3 with 2 HRs at the moment.

He's also another catcher, if memory serves. The Jays have a lot of really good catching and infield prospects and just seem to keep adding, which is a nice spot to be in.

Kloffenstein hasn't actually been assigned to the roster yet. Probably still in extended where they can monitor him for a bit.

A unique day for Dunedin outfielder Joshua Palacios. The Jays resumed a suspended game, and won, and Palacios went 5-6 with a homer and a double. Now, the homer might have been hit back in April, I can't tell from the log, but it wasn't officially part of his states. Then the same teams played a seven inning nightcap, and Palacios went 2-3 with a homer, which became his fourth of the season. So a 7-9 day with two homers which raises his average to .286.

The HR was hit before it was suspended. So, yeah, Palacios had home runs in both halves of today's game, with the second one being his first home run in almost two months.
