It's been almost 24 hours since this news broke and I've seen nothing of it from any of the Jays beat writers. There's a half dozen of them that "break" the exact same stories with the same sources within a minute of each other like clockwork every few days, presumably once the team lifts a moratorium on coverage. Yet they can't be bothered to cover a story about a Blue Jays legend in a coma? I guess they're waiting for the go-ahead from the team to write about it...

Ben Cherington explains why the Pirates aren't going to ‘rebuild’

“If I think about the word rebuild, what comes to my mind is a team that has been doing well that you are taking apart to then rebuild it, and you’re in the process of doing that,” Cherington told Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. As an example, Cherington (who most recently worked as Toronto’s senior VP of baseball operations) described the Blue Jays’ thought process following their consecutive ALCS appearances in 2015-16, as “we knew we were going to have to rebuild that roster” of increasingly aging and expensive players.

Just over three seasons later, not a single player from the 2016 Jays remains on the team’s current 40-man roster, yet Cherington said such a drastic overhaul isn’t necessary for the Pirates. “A good chunk of players who were on the team last year will be on the team this year, and they really do have a chance to be part of that next winning team. We’re just trying to build toward that,” the general manager said.

Gibby to the Braves as special assignment scout or coach most likely to replace someone fired. It was inevitable.

AA named president of baseball operations.

Thought Jose tore his rotator cuff trying to throw a runner out at first base out of anger? His arm was never the same...

MLB is cracking down with new in-game rules, with potential proposals that include banning front office staffers from the clubhouse and blocking live video. Tom Verducci reports:

One general manager said the in-game use of clubhouses—for video use, checking phones or just plain lounging—has grown so out of hand that one night upon seeing only coaches on his team’s bench during a game he ordered his video room shut temporarily.

ANAHEIM, Calif. — The Los Angeles Angels have fired longtime visiting clubhouse manager Brian “Bubba” Harkins for allegedly aiding opposing pitchers in obtaining illegal substances to put on baseballs, a person familiar with the decision told The Associated Press on Thursday night.

The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the Angels don't publicly discuss the details of internal personnel matters.

The Angels confirmed Harkins' dismissal Thursday night to The Associated Press.

Harkins was fired Tuesday while the Angels are in Arizona for spring training. He has worked at Angel Stadium for most of the past four decades.

I get the impression alot of baseball fans might not watch as many games this year because of all this sign stealing / foreign substance use bs. But this is weird, why are you helping other teams?
