Vlad Jr question: is weight an issue at all?
especially if he's playing 3B and playing on our crappy turf?
looks like he's got a lot of extra lbs

with Groshans, Martinez and Hiraldo behind him in the lower minor, Vlady won't stay at 3B for long. I think he will eventually become a DH soon.

Doesn’t look the weight is ever going to slim down. How big of a problem it becomes depend on his health, i.e. knee.
I still don’t see them moving him off 3B as his main spot for the first few years in the majors.
His defense and weight problems are a bit overblown. Vladdy has not even practiced any position other than 3B since 17, and he’s no more a liability than Solarte, Travis, and Teoscar at their positions. And realistically we won’t be competing in the short term, so he’ll have a lot of leash for mistakes.

I love me some Groshans, Hiraldo, Martinez. But until they prove they’re an FV 60+ guy, I wouldn’t even worry about them bumping Vlad off third base. They have a better shot bumping Bichette off shortstop or Gurriel off 2B, but these aren’t even relevant questions until 2021.

Pretty satisfied with the Forrest Wall and Chad Spanberger acquisition.
Spanberger looks like he can really mash and Wall has some intriguing upside.

I liked Wall for his contact/speed combination at 2B when he just got drafted, but he had fell off the cliff. I will be satisfied if he became a Ben Revere type of player.

We are stacked at 1B, Tellez(1995), Clemens(1994), Spanberger(1995), Noda(1996), and maybe Morris(1998). They all have similar tools, just don't know which will developed into a major league regular 1B.

If he's playing 3B, then the turf isn't really an issue for him. Since we have a full dirt infield now.

Might definitely be an issue if he's a bigger guy who ends up having to play OF on the turf. Bigger players have more lower body injuries, and the turf definitely accelerates the wear and tear in those areas of the body.

Jonathan Davis is only 11 games into his AAA career but he seems to be adjusting nicely. Can't say I ever thought he'd be a .300 hitter at either AA or AAA yet here we are, albeit in less then a full season.

Interested to see if he gets a shot with the big club. His Base Stealing % is very good and kind of fits the athlete mold that Shpiro/Atkins want.
That's what she said.

Davis should get a chance, at least for a transitional period when someone better can be developed. Davis is a solid all arounder, very good in the field, too.

This is pretty much it. It isn't a problem now and the Jays have no reason do anything until they have to. If all the SS/2Bs the Jays have in their system work out, then sure, consider moving Vlad to another position. If Vlad struggles at 3b and can't handle it in the majors, then find him another position. Until either of those things happen, though, it's far better to keep him at third.

It's an issue if they want him to play anywhere but 1B/DH. It's only a matter of getting him to eat less, it's really not rocket science. Depends if they want to push him to do that, or not.

Yo, Schad, what do you think of what Gabriel Moreno is doing? Still no walks, but only 6 strike outs, and he continues to absolutely destroy the GCL. I don't know what to make of that.

Good chance it's an approach that'll fail him when he gets to a level where it isn't fastballs all the time, but I'll derive amusement from it while it lasts.

Travis Bergen settling in nicely as the NH closer. Another 1-2-3 ninth with 2K last night. A left-handed closer with a great K rate and K/BB ratio. Hasn't given up a run since June 15, and hasn't given up more than one run since April 27 in Dunedin. ERA at NH now down to 0.37. The sample size is starting to increase. Our Round 7/2015 pick, He's 24, and as noted previously, lost a lot of development time to injury since being drafted. A maybe for the bullpen next season?

Thinking of going to Buffalo, here is some info on next week's homestand opener against Lehigh Valley

Seats a dirt cheap. You'll never pay less for a ticket to see Vlad.

So does Vlad get a September call up if all goes well? Would definitely help boost ticket sales.

If we call him up in September versus mid-April, we lose a year of service time. I sincerely hope that our management isn't that short-sighted; at the moment it seems like we're saying the right things about "being patient".

So far tonight, Forrest Wall is 3-3 with a double and walk. Billy McKinney is 1-2 with a double. Chad Spanberger is 2-2.

If nothing else, almost all of our "should have above-average power; rest remains to be seen" guys from the last two drafts definitely have the advertised pop, as Brock Lundquist became the latest in a long string of Jays prospects to top the 15 HR mark on Thursday, and hit his 16th today. In a statement so damned consistent across our system that I really need to create a browser macro to autofill it for every update, he also has shown decent-to-good patience, but the swing-and-miss remains something of a concern given his 22% K rate in A ball.

And because it/he makes no **** sense to me whatsoever: Ryan Noda hit 0 home runs from April 7 - May 29. He then hit 10 HRs from May 30 - June 23. Now he has 1 HR from June 24 - July 28. That isn't streaky; that's two different people.
