Sounds like Jansen is getting the call with Solarte likely going on the DL. Martin likely to play 3B.
Jansen left the game in the 8th inning hugging teammates in the dugout.

Re: 2018 Minor Leagues/Prospect Discussion Thread
I'm really not sure I want Jansen to be around the **** that is the MLB team at the moment. But he does deserve to be with the big club.
The Jays have a decision to make next year at catcher. All of Jansen, Martin and Maile will be deserving of time, and they can't carry all three. Do they buy out Martin in favour of Maile who is under team control until 2023?

Nick Nurse recounting his first meeting with Kawhi:
“We could have gone forever. (Raptors management) kept knocking on the door and I was like, ‘A couple more minutes.’ Because we were really into it."

I was thinking the same thing - at least until they make permanent moves to make room for him to be an everyday player. McGuire is also on the 40 man roster, and is a very good defender/game caller but probably less of a prospect.

Have the Jays called up Jansen or not? That tweet was deleted.

Both he and Sean Reid-Foley are in the Jays clubhouse. Reid-Foley will start tomorrow in Kansas City.

How is calling up Jansen and SRF now, do to their service times, I guess it starts ticking now?

I'm less concerned with SRF/Jansen, simply because they're more likely to have a learning curve, and if good the odds are far better of extending them at some point than Vlad. If neither sees the minors again, they'll be three-year arb players and FAs after 2024.

**** your asterisk.

Monday's game may be the first I've checked out in a while then. SRF and Jansen are both guys who could end up being quite good. I especially like Jansen's profile. SRF has been pretty great at AAA this year. Hopeful on both going forward.
I'm a bit surprised they called up Pannone to work in the bullpen and not start.

I can't even project the 40 man next week. The key for next season is whether management is ready to move vets at a discount or simply eat their salaries. Their is the Donaldson question mark and whether management wants to re-sign somebody like Happ as a transitional FA. Too many variables.

So they will DFA no one, trade no one, and make very little room in the 40 man roster to protect prospects? And they will send Jansen back to Buffalo. I think there will be a fair bit more churn that that. There isn't a reliever on that list except Pannone and Giles I'd protect ahead of some of the pitchers in the system we may need to protect from the Rule 5 draft.

Re: 2018 Minor Leagues/Prospect Discussion Thread
We should be in decent shape for the Rule 5. The possible adds are, I think, as follows:
Yennsy Diaz will be added, in all likelihood, probably Patrick Murphy, Jordan Romano and perhaps Angel Perdomo and Jonathan Davis (all were eligible but unselected last year), maybe Jon Harris and Travis Bergen.
We'll be dropping enough veterans to accommodate them without too much angst. Have something like six FAs and at least four players on the current 40-man that I'd classify as cannon fodder (and that's being charitable). Subtract three on the 60-day and we should be fine, even before we get to the ins and outs of the offseason.

I imagine they will want to keep Martin to help develop Jansen. Would anyone want Morales if we ate hiss salary?

Re: 2018 Minor Leagues/Prospect Discussion Thread
In honour of Danny Jansen's debut, I'm highlighting the unusual catcher depth the Jays have at Bluefield, where three catchers - Danner, Moreno and Kirk - are all hitting over .300. Of course, that doesn't tell much about their ability behind the plate, but certainly the offence is nice. To keep at least two of them active on any given day, Bluefield is using one - often Danner - as a DH.
