They had a chance to bring him back before he signed a 1 year deal in LA and fix that mistake. They went with KK instead…. With Varsho already here.

In hindsight, letting Semien and Teo get their money elsewhere so they could get Bassitt and Gausman destroyed This lineup.

Imagine they would had signed Semien, hung on to Teo, and traded Jansen and Gurriel somewhere for pitching instead of Gurriel and Moreno for Varsho. Then they still add Gausman to replace Ray and Chapman in 2022. Then add KK, Kikuchi and Bassitt last year?

2023 lineup

C-Moreno/Kirk
1B-Vlad
2B-Semien
SS-Bo
3B-Chapman
LF-Teo
CF-KK
RF-Springer
DH- Kirk/Moreno

Rotation

Gausman
Berrios
Bassitt
Kikuchi
Manoah

Why did they have to rob Peter to pay Paul? They were so close and a decision at the top to overvalue run prevention has set them back another 5 years.

Make it make sense

At that time the trade was made, you rationalized the move as a cost cutting measure and you seemed fine with it. I do not recall you saying you hated the Teoscar trade, and if I remember correctly you did not mind Swanson coming back as a high leverage arm in the bullpen.

Now all of a sudden you hate the trade. I wanted Teoscar back last off-season as a primary DH/Occasional RF. His agent even reached out to Toronto, but Atkins was not interested and thought spending similar amount of money on Cavan Biggio, Vogelbach, and Justin Turner was the better course of action. Well done Atkins on your brilliant analytics.

That's because a cost cutting measure was the only way the deal made sense from the Jays perspective given their contender status going into 2023. And I was never fine with it in a vacuum. I even said that kind of cost cutting reminded me of the JP days. Does that sound positive to you?

Hate is a strong word. They obviously didn't get anything for Teoscar but only one year of him isn't all that valuable either. I just find it amusing that people complain about trading a backup catcher for one of the best outfielders in baseball when they traded a starting OF for a middle reliever in the same offseason. It's pretty clear which of those deals was the win of the two.

And FYI, I was on record last offseason of wanting Teoscar back as well (and it has been reported the Jays were interested and did make an offer for him). It wasn't Biggio or Vogelbach they spent that money on, though, it was giving Chad Green a silly contract for no real reason that cost them that opportunity.

I mentioned Justin Turner (13 million), Biggio (4.21 million) and Vogelbach (2 million), since their combined contracts were close to the 20 million Teoscar's agent was seeking from teams in free agency. Both Biggio and Vogelvach were then DFA, and Turner was traded for a minor league scrub prospect come the deadline.

However, it is true Chad Green's 10.5 million in 2024, and Kiermaier's 10.5 million also could have been spent more wisely by Atkins. Over 40 million spent last off-season on these 5 guys, with not much to show for this year.

If we signed Teo back, the trade wouldn’t have been bad. But we wasted that opportunity

Someone remind Blue Jays fans again why Ross Atkins traded away Teoscar Hernandez for a scrub pitcher...

The organization decided to get serious about preventing runs, instead of scoring them.

That would have been a long way from LA where Teo was

He also wanted to break up our "Latin cabal". The players were having too much fun in the dugout

One of the best playoff games in a long time. The Yankees had their souls crushed.

We watched the tragedy unfold. We did as we were told, we bought and sold. It was the greatest show on Earth...but then it was over.
